Hand, foot and mouth disease with repeated high fever of 39 degrees

Hand, foot and mouth disease with repeated high fever of 39 degrees

Young children are prone to diseases due to their poor physical resistance, such as thrush, eczema, hand, foot and mouth disease, etc. These diseases are prone to recurring. Among them, hand, foot and mouth disease is the most severe. Young children will have symptoms of persistent high fever after becoming ill. Some babies have repeated high fevers of 39 degrees due to hand, foot and mouth disease, which makes their parents exhausted. Moreover, hand, foot and mouth disease is highly contagious. If it is not treated and isolated in time, cross infection is likely to occur if there are other young children in the home, which is difficult to prevent.

What is Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

An infectious disease (mainly transmitted by contact or droplets) caused by enterovirus (there are more than 20 types of enterovirus that can cause hand, foot and mouth disease), which mostly occurs in children under 5 years old and can cause herpes on the hands, feet, mouth and other parts of the body (a small number of children may develop complications such as myocarditis, pulmonary edema, aseptic meningoencephalitis, etc.

The main symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease

Mild symptoms:

When children become ill, they usually first develop a fever, blisters on the palms and soles of the feet (the area around the rash may turn red), rashes, blisters or ulcers on the oral mucosa, and obvious pain. Some children may experience cough, runny nose, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting, while older children may complain of symptoms such as headaches.

Severe cases:

A small number of children have serious conditions and may develop complications such as encephalitis, meningitis, myocarditis, pneumonia, etc., which may be life-threatening if not treated in time.

How to deal with repeated high fever of hand, foot and mouth disease

There is currently no specific medicine for hand, foot and mouth disease. If the baby shows symptoms of repeated high fever: over 38.5 degrees Celsius.

1.

Use antipyretics to reduce the fever first and make the baby more comfortable.

2.

If symptoms such as vomiting and dehydration occur, replenish water and electrolytes in time, that is, use oral rehydration salts.

3.

The patient should eat liquid and cool foods, light, easily digestible porridge or noodles, etc. to avoid irritating the ulcer and causing pain.

4.

Keep the mouth clean and rinse it frequently with light salt water before and after meals. For babies who do not know how to rinse their mouths, you can use a cotton swab dipped in light salt water to gently wipe the mouth.

If your baby develops papules or herpes on the mouth, hands, feet, anus, etc., parents should take the baby to the hospital without delay and let the doctor diagnose and treat the baby, regardless of whether the baby has a fever or not. If the patient is prone to severe symptoms, he or she will need to stay in the hospital for observation or hospitalization.

【Warm reminder】

As long as the baby is in good condition and does not have serious conditions such as poor spirits, drowsiness, difficulty breathing, fatigue, pale complexion, etc., general home care will be sufficient. Most babies can gradually recover in about 7 days, so parents don’t need to worry too much.

April to July is the peak period for hand, foot and mouth disease. We must do a good job in prevention. Prevention is better than cure. Parents must do a good job in prevention.
