Baby's nose has phlegm and can't be discharged

When a baby has a cold, not only will there be too much fluid in the nose, but phlegm will also be inhaled into the lungs through the nose, which is very bad for the body. Parents should pay attention to the phlegm in the baby's nose that cannot be discharged. Parents can use some simple methods to clean it, which can achieve the effect of suctioning phlegm.

Methods/Steps

Clear the nostrils. When you have a cold, are allergic to the outside air, or are injured, the capillaries in your nasal mucosa dilate and become congested, and the secretions increase significantly, flowing forward as nasal discharge or blocking the nasal cavity, necessitating clearing of your nostrils. Common in the following situations:

1. When the child lies flat, the secretions flow back to the throat, irritating the throat and causing coughing.

2. When you sleep at night, you will keep coughing, and many of them may be caused by this "postnasal drip".

3. Feeling of difficulty breathing and wheezing: When breastfeeding, because the mouth is blocked by the nipple and food, and the nasal cavity is originally blocked, breathing becomes more difficult. The baby will show symptoms such as irritability, dark complexion, flaring nostrils, and sunken chest.

2. Clean the nose. When cleaning nasal secretions, do not use tweezers to pinch them out forcefully. Soften the nasal crust first, use a cotton swab dipped in clean water to drop 1-2 drops into each nasal cavity, or you can also use breast milk or milk. After 1-2 minutes, wait for the nasal crust to soften and then pull it out with a dry cotton swab, or use a soft object to stimulate the nasal mucosa to induce sneezing, and the nasal secretions will be discharged, thus making the newborn's nasal cavity unobstructed.

The specific operations are as follows:

1. Gently fix the baby's head.

2. Use a cotton swab (smaller than the baby's nostrils) to slowly insert it into the baby's nostrils. You can slightly loosen the cotton head of the cotton swab to make it easier to absorb moisture.

3. When rotating, do not touch the inner wall of the baby's nose, otherwise it will easily cause the baby to sneeze.

4. When you take out the cotton swab, snot will come out with it. You can gently wipe it clean with soft paper.

5. Use several cotton swabs back and forth until the baby's nostrils are clean.

Nasal foreign body treatment. The main symptoms of foreign bodies in the nasal cavity are blockage of one side of the nose, increased nasal discharge over time, or nasal discharge with blood. Over time, secondary infection will occur, and the nasal discharge will become purulent and have a foul odor. Cause: It is common for children to accidentally put small objects into their noses while playing games or toys. Types of foreign objects include small beads, eraser heads, pieces of paper, corn kernels, beans, eye drop bottle caps, etc. Because young children's language development is not yet mature and their subjective expression ability is poor, any abnormal behavior of their children depends on parents' careful observation. When you find foreign objects in your child's nose, don't panic or let the baby cry. Remove the foreign objects from the nose in time. If you cannot take it out, you must go to a specialist hospital for treatment in time.
