What are the effects of noise on the fetus?

From a physiological point of view, noise is a sound that affects people's normal life. It is an irregular sound. Noise is harmful to pregnant women and may also affect the fetus. The impact of noise on the fetus is also very obvious, and may damage the fetal hearing.

1. Hearing loss

The noise that the fetus receives is transmitted through the mother's abdominal wall. When the pregnant woman's abdomen is exposed to strong noise, the fetus will also be exposed to strong noise. Although various tissues of the mother's abdominal wall, the uterus, amniotic fluid and other tissue structures can protect the fetus' hearing, the effect is very limited, especially for low-frequency sounds, there is almost no attenuation function. Because the fetus's cochlea and other structures have not yet reached structural and functional maturity, its hearing system is very sensitive to damage from noise.

2. Affects brain development

When the fetus' inner ear is stimulated by noise, it will damage parts of the brain and seriously affect the development of the brain, leading to mental retardation in the baby or child after birth. In addition, exposure to high-intensity noise during pregnancy may also cause intrauterine growth retardation and low birth weight of the fetus.

3. Miscarriage and premature birth

Noise can also disrupt the function of the endocrine glands of pregnant women, causing excessive secretion of oxytocin by the pituitary gland, which can cause strong contractions of the uterus and lead to miscarriage or premature birth. If you work in a factory or office building, the noise level in your office should be below 85 decibels. However, pregnant women who stay in this environment for a long time may be easily affected in their mood. You can negotiate with your boss to give certain care during this special period and work in an environment away from noise.
