How old can babies eat porridge?

After birth, babies need to rely on breast milk or formula to maintain the nutrition they need. This is because babies who are too young only have the innate ability to suck, and can only drink breast milk or milk with a pacifier, and cannot eat anything else. However, as the baby grows, parents can gradually start to feed the child some thinner meals, such as porridge, etc. So at what age can the baby eat porridge?

1. Babies under 3 months old

Generally speaking, it is not advisable to add food to babies under 3 months old. Because they can get enough calories and nutrition from their mother's milk or formula. However, VD supplementation should start from the third week after birth. For breastfed babies, add 2-3 drops of concentrated cod liver oil drops every day, and increase to 4 drops when the baby is 3 months old, and feed it twice a day. Since VD is already supplemented in formula milk, you can calculate whether your baby needs additional VD based on the amount of VD contained in each brand of formula milk and the amount of milk your baby drinks.

Starting from 2 months, you can feed your baby some vegetable juice or fruit juice. Start with 1 tablespoon each time, then gradually increase to 2-3 tablespoons, feeding once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

2. 4-5 month old baby

Concentrated cod liver oil drops can be gradually increased from 4 drops per day to 6 drops, divided into 2 feedings.

For vegetable juice and fruit juice, the amount can be gradually increased from 3 tablespoons to 5 tablespoons, fed in 2 times.

Start giving your baby hard-boiled egg yolks. Start with a quarter of the baby, crush it and put it in rice soup or milk, mix well and feed. After they get used to it, gradually increase the number to one-half.

From 4 and a half months onwards, you can eat well-cooked rice-free porridge, 1 tablespoon per day. If the baby's digestion is good, you can increase the amount to 2-3 tablespoons from 5 months onwards. Add half a spoonful of vegetable puree to the porridge and feed it in 2 times.

3, 6 months old baby

From now until 12 months, maintain about 6 drops of concentrated cod liver oil per day, divided into 2 feedings.

Increase the amount of vegetable and fruit juice to 6 tablespoons per day, divided into two feedings.

Increase the amount of boiled egg yolk to 1 per day, and then transition to steamed egg custard, half an egg per day.

The porridge can be thickened slightly, starting with 3 tablespoons a day, divided into 2 feedings, and gradually increasing to 5-6 tablespoons.

You can add 1 tablespoon of vegetable puree to the porridge, with a little salt.

If babies eat weaning foods well, mothers can reduce one feeding for them.

4. 7-8 months old baby

You can transition from half an egg custard to a whole egg custard.

Feed thick porridge twice a day, a small bowl (about 6-7 tablespoons) each time. Initially, add 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable puree to the porridge, gradually increasing to 3-4 tablespoons. You can add a little minced meat, fish, and meat floss to the porridge (not all at once).

Start by letting your baby chew on steamed bread slices (1/2 slice) or biscuits to promote the development of teeth. Breast milk (or other dairy products) can be fed 3 or 2 times a day, but weaning foods must be fed first and then breast milk.
