How long should a three-month-old baby sleep a day?

It seems that babies spend most of their time sleeping after they are born. In many cases, they even eat, drink, defecate and urinate in their sleep. Babies do need a long time of sleep. They sleep much more than adults because their brain nerves are not fully developed and need sleep to develop. But how much sleep do three-month-old babies need? How much sleep is normal for them?

Newborns sleep more than sixteen hours a day, with only short periods of wakefulness in between. As the baby grows,

The sleeping time gradually decreases, and the awake time slowly increases. A three-month-old baby should sleep more than thirteen hours a day, mostly at night. Continuous sleep at night should be five to six hours. It is normal to wake up once, two, or three times a night, or not wake up at all. Every baby's sleep pattern is different, but parents should start to get their baby into a regular sleep pattern from three months old. The age at which babies start to sleep through the night varies. Some babies no longer wake their mothers from their sleep when they are three or four months old. However, most full-term babies are not able to sleep for more than nine hours in a row and no longer need to be fed at night until they are five or six months old.

. Get your baby on a regular bedtime, but adapt it to his physical needs. If your baby takes an hour to fall asleep in bed, put him to bed an hour later. Cradles and pacifiers can help babies fall asleep. Feeding five to ten minutes before bed, playing in the bed for a while, singing lullabies and gently patting can help babies fall asleep easily. It is best to let your baby develop the habit of being able to fall asleep without being supervised. Many young parents unconsciously spoil their babies too much, and the little ones can easily develop the habit of demanding constant attention and cannot be separated from their mothers for a moment, which will make their mothers exhausted.

There is nothing wrong with a baby sleeping longer. However, if the baby is always crying and refusing to sleep, parents should pay attention and take the baby to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible. If there is no problem and the baby is just having a tantrum, parents should consciously cultivate the child to sleep alone and let the child go to bed at a fixed time every day to develop a regular biological clock for the child. This will not only be beneficial to the child's growth and development, but also will not make the mother feel exhausted.
