Some of you may have heard of a disease called progeria, but there are definitely not many people who really understand it. After all, there are very few people around us who suffer from progeria. However, since the harm of progeria is very great, it is necessary for us to know more about it. Below we will introduce to you what progeria is and the treatment plan for progeria. Progeria (premature aging syndrome in children) is a genetic disease. The body ages 5 to 10 times faster than normal. Patients look like old people, and their organs quickly deteriorate, causing a decline in physiological functions. Symptoms include small stature, hair loss and delayed tooth eruption. Children with the disease generally only live to 7 to 20 years old, and most of them will die from aging diseases such as cardiovascular disease. There is currently no effective treatment and the only treatment is targeted medication. There is currently no proven treatment for Progeria. Most treatments focus on reducing complications, such as coronary artery bypass surgery or low-dose aspirin. Patients may also benefit from a high-calorie diet. Growth hormone treatment has also been tried. Farnesyltransferase inhibitors (a type of anticancer drug) have been proposed for treatment of progeria, but their use is currently mostly limited to animal experiments. One of the Phase II clinical trials using this inhibitor, Lonafarnib, began in May 2007. If there is endocrine dysfunction, corresponding supplementary treatment should be given; for those with high blood lipids and symptoms of atherosclerosis, the amount of fat in the diet should be limited, and anti-atherosclerotic drugs should be given appropriately. People with dry and hardened skin can take niacin, vitamin E, and B vitamins orally, take salvia miltiorrhiza tablets orally, or receive salvia miltiorrhiza liquid intravenously. Some developmental deformities can be corrected surgically. In short, this disease is mainly treated symptomatically and there is no specific treatment. In the above article, we introduced a very harmful genetic disease, that is, progeria. We know that the main cause of progeria is gene mutation. The above article introduces the treatment plan for progeria in detail. |
