Can premature baby infections be cured?

Premature babies have poor physical constitution and are prone to infection problems, which is very harmful to children. Premature babies will face many challenges after birth, so in daily life, on the one hand, they should strengthen good nursing, and on the other hand, they should check and treat in time. For example, they are often prone to gastrointestinal infections, lung infections, or umbilical infections, etc.

Can premature baby infections be cured?

Digestive tract infection: Intestinal infection in premature infants can be caused by the intestinal infection itself or by systemic infection. Although it also manifests as diarrhea, infectious diarrhea in premature infants is more severe and is more likely to cause dehydration and acidosis, so it should be treated promptly.

Lung infection: Aspiration pneumonia and infectious pneumonia are common respiratory infections in premature infants. Neonatal pneumonia can be aspiration-induced, naturally infected, or secondary to endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Umbilical infection: The umbilicus is an open wound where bacteria can grow and multiply more easily. If you find redness, swelling, or purulent secretions in the umbilicus, you should consider omphalitis.

Skin infection: Skin pustulosis is a common skin infection in premature infants, which is often caused by skin damage and poor skin care.

Oral infection: Stomatitis and thrush are common oral infections in newborns. They may be caused by oral hygiene problems or dysbacteriosis caused by the use of antibiotics. Some premature babies do not have obvious symptoms of oral infection. They are mainly unwilling to feed and cry while feeding. White film can be seen on the oral mucosa on the inside of the cheek. It can be cured by applying nystatin to the mouth.

Premature birth has a great impact on newborns

1. Imperfect lung development

Due to premature birth, the baby's lungs cannot fully expand, affecting normal breathing and may even cause death.

2. Imperfect liver development

Premature birth causes the liver system to develop immaturely, which can cause VK deficiency in newborns and easily lead to bleeding.

3. Affect the development of the central nervous system

Premature infants have an underdeveloped central temperature system, little fat, and poor ability to self-regulate their temperature, making them prone to symptoms of hard swelling and pulmonary hemorrhage.

4. Poor sucking ability

Due to poor sucking ability, premature babies are difficult to feed, which may cause hypoglycemia and other symptoms. In severe cases, nasogastric feeding is required. Premature babies cannot suck milk normally, which can cause hypoglycemia in the newborn, and in severe cases may even require nasogastric feeding.

5. Weak immunity

Premature babies have poor resistance to viruses and bacteria, are greatly affected by the surrounding environment, and are prone to symptoms such as lung infections.

6. Prone to jaundice

Premature babies are more likely to develop jaundice, and the condition can be serious.
