Neonatal jaundice is a disease that almost all children will suffer from. Most of them will gradually disappear over time, but a small number of pathological jaundice will never disappear and requires timely medical treatment, otherwise it will have a certain impact on the child's intelligence. If the jaundice of a newborn exceeds 12.9 and continues to increase, there is a problem and parents need to pay attention. So how serious is a bilirubin index of over 300? 1. Is neonatal jaundice more than 300 serious? If the neonatal jaundice value is 300, the baby may have abnormal jaundice. Pathological jaundice of the baby is a group of diseases caused by many reasons. The common causes of jaundice are: hemolytic jaundice, infectious jaundice, obstructive jaundice, breast milk jaundice, etc. It is recommended that the baby go to the hospital to see a doctor, who usually uses blue light or indigo medicine for treatment. The normal jaundice values for full-term babies are different from those for premature babies. Generally, the normal value of jaundice in full-term newborns is 12.9 mg/100 ml, which means that the bilirubin level in 100 ml of blood is lower than 12.9 mg. The normal value of jaundice in premature babies is 15 mg/100 ml of blood, which means that the bilirubin level in 100 ml of blood is less than 15 mg. When the baby's jaundice value exceeds 12.9mg/dl or the neonatal jaundice index rises too quickly (rising by more than 5mh/dl per day), or the jaundice lasts longer than the time it takes for a full-term baby to disappear within 14 days and for a premature baby to disappear within 4 weeks, or the jaundice disappears and reappears. It means that the neonatal jaundice is unhealthy and may be suffering from pathological jaundice. 2. Causes of neonatal jaundice 1. Increased hemoglobin caused by intrauterine hypoxia. When the baby is in the mother's womb, the oxygen content in the uterus is relatively low, so the number of red blood cells in the baby's body will increase. These red blood cells are easily destroyed, which will lead to an increase in hemoglobin, causing neonatal jaundice after the baby is born. 2. Neonatal jaundice caused by breast milk worsens. Careful parents will find when taking care of their babies that the baby has neonatal jaundice after birth. Before breastfeeding, the baby does not show any abnormal symptoms. However, after breastfeeding, the bilirubin in the baby's body will increase. This is because there is a certain hormone in breast milk that affects the digestion of bilirubin in the body. 3. Jaundice caused by blood type incompatibility. If the baby has jaundice, we may think of blood incompatibility between mother and child. Some mothers' blood types are incompatible with their babies' blood types. At this time, jaundice is likely to increase. In this case, you need to go to the hospital for examination and treatment. If the situation is not serious, we recommend phototherapy. 4. Viral infection. The baby's jaundice is relatively unstable. Sometimes the jaundice has disappeared, but it will reappear. At this time, we have to suspect whether the baby's jaundice is caused by a virus infection. Some viral infections can cause the baby to have this condition. |
