What to do if your newborn baby has high jaundice

What to do if your newborn baby has high jaundice

Jaundice is the most common disease for newborns. Some babies have severe jaundice from birth, while others gradually develop jaundice a few days after birth. In fact, most jaundice is physiological jaundice. Parents don’t need to worry, it will disappear automatically after a few days. But if it is pathological jaundice, you need to pay attention and seek medical attention in time. So what should we do if a newborn baby has high jaundice?

1. Newborns should be breastfed immediately after birth, for five minutes in the operating room, and for thirty minutes after returning to the mother and baby room. At the same time, the baby should be breastfed on demand, and the longest interval between breastfeeding should not exceed three hours.

Breastfeeding of newborns can effectively promote gastrointestinal motility and allow the baby to defecate early, so that bilirubin can be excreted from the body in the feces, which is beneficial to lower the bilirubin level in the baby's body, so it is beneficial to the disappearance of jaundice.

2. If the jaundice index of the newborn is greater than 9 after 24 hours

mmol/L, it is necessary to add sugar water between two feedings. This can increase the newborn's urination, and the newborn can excrete bilirubin when urinating.

3. Newborns can swim under the care of specially trained personnel after the 24th day of birth, and wear a special swimming ring when swimming.

Swimming for newborns can promote the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones and gastrin, and at the same time increase insulin secretion, which will increase the appetite of newborns, strengthen gastrointestinal motility, and naturally increase bowel movements, which is beneficial to the excretion of bilirubin in the newborn's body and can effectively reduce neonatal jaundice.

4. Twenty-four hours after the birth of the newborn, the newborn needs to be massaged and touched. This touch needs to be done when the newborn feels in a better mood, such as after swimming, before a nap, between two breastfeedings, and any other time when the newborn is not hungry or irritable.

This kind of massage and touch can effectively promote the excitement of the nervous system and increase the secretion of gastrin and insulin, which can make the baby eat more and help the baby to have more bowel movements. Bowel movements can effectively excrete bilirubin, reduce bilirubin in the body, and help the disappearance of jaundice.
