Newborn baby's body is red

Newborn baby's body is red

Although some people have not given birth to children themselves, they can find out through TV science or people around them that newborns are usually red and wrinkled all over. Although family members will look at newborns with a beautifying eye, objectively speaking, newborns do not look very good when they come out. A big reason for this is that their entire body is red. The skin color is mainly related to the pigment deposition of the baby in the mother's body, and it will slowly fade after a few days after birth.

Why is the newborn baby red all over?

1. A baby's skin color can range from purplish to pinkish gray. In babies of color, skin pigmentation may not be noticeable for hours, or even days, after birth. Many babies are born with light skin that later darkens. If the baby's skin has a little bluish color, this may be caused by mucus in the respiratory tract, most of the mucus is sucked out, and the rest is coughed out.

2. Around the second or third day, the baby's skin turns yellow or orange. About half of babies experience jaundice. This color is caused by the baby's liver's inability to eliminate the products of blood cell breakdown. The accumulation of these products can make the skin look yellowish or orange-red. Mild jaundice disappears in about a week or 10 days; it may last slightly longer if the baby is breastfed.

3. Generally, babies are red when they are born, and some are very white. However, after watching many babies grow up, we have seen that babies who are born very white will not be so white as they grow older, but will become relatively darker. Babies who are born red will become whiter as they grow older. There are also a very small number of babies whose changes are not significant.

What should newborns pay attention to?

1. Keep warm: Newborns have thin subcutaneous fat and a large relative body surface area, so they can easily dissipate heat. In addition, the temperature regulation center of newborns is immature. If the temperature is too high, excessive evaporation of water can cause "dehydration fever"; if the temperature is too low, the newborn's own heat production is insufficient, which can cause "scleredema." Therefore, we should pay attention to the environmental temperature and humidity of the newborn, often touch the temperature of the newborn's hands and feet, and add or remove quilts and clothes in time to keep the newborn's body temperature within the normal range.

2. Feeding: Newborns have poor digestive function, and breast milk is the most ideal food. Breastfeeding should be insisted on. If breastfeeding is not available, infant formula can be used.

3. Prevent infection: Newborns have poor resistance and are easily infected. Therefore, try to reduce visits from relatives and friends. Wash your hands with soap before caring for the newborn. Washing your hands clean is very important to prevent neonatal infection. People at home who have colds or various infectious diseases should not come into contact with newborns.
