Children should be alert to the dangers of taking too many calcium tablets!

Calcium plays a very important role in children's growth process. Calcium can promote the development and growth of children's bones and other functions. Many mothers give their babies calcium tablets in order to make them grow taller. But you must pay attention to the dosage. Taking calcium tablets appropriately is good for the body, but if you consume too much calcium tablets, it will cause anorexia, nausea, indigestion, and growth inhibition. Below are the specific dangers of children taking too many calcium tablets.

1. Affect growth

The main symptoms of excessive calcium supplementation in children include anorexia, nausea, indigestion, etc. It may also limit brain development and affect growth.

2. Hyperuria

Long-term excessive calcium supplementation can cause hyperuria. Children will have mild low back pain in the early stages, red blood cells may be found in urine microscopy, and in severe cases, there may be gross hematuria.

3. Low blood pressure

Excessive calcium supplementation will cause low blood pressure, and calcium deposits on the heart valves will affect heart function and increase the risk of heart disease in the future. Deposition in the blood vessel walls will aggravate vascular sclerosis.

4. Affect vision

If the calcium concentration in the aqueous humor is too high, it can precipitate into crystallin and cause cataracts and blindness. If calcium is deposited around the cornea, it will affect vision.

5. Reduced immunity

Too much calcium in the intestines will inhibit the absorption of divalent ions such as iron and zinc, causing secondary zinc and iron deficiency, which in turn leads to anorexia, anemia, fatigue, slow growth and development, and decreased immunity in babies.

6. Height restrictions

Premature calcification of bones and premature closure of epiphyses affect the development of long bones and inhibit final height.

7. Grimace Syndrome

In addition, too much calcium in the bones makes the bones brittle and prone to fractures. High blood calcium causes premature calcification of cartilage and premature closure of the anterior fontanelle, resulting in microcephaly and restricting the space for the baby's brain development. A very small number of babies may suffer from "ghost face syndrome" if they take excessive calcium supplements, which is characterized by a big mouth, protruding upper lip, flat nose bridge, upturned nostrils, and eyes far apart.

It is recommended to supplement calcium scientifically, get more sun exposure and supplement calcium through diet.
