Treatment of true phimosis in children

Treatment of true phimosis in children

Phimosis in children is a very normal phenomenon, which is also very common. Phimosis in children may heal on its own. There are two main types of phimosis: true phimosis and false phimosis. Treatment of true phimosis in children is also very important. If necessary, surgical treatment is required.

1. The foreskin of true phimosis is very tight and has no elasticity. It cannot be retracted by any method to expose the glans. Most of them are accompanied by soft tissue lesions. Scars caused by various reasons, such as infection (balanitis, posthitis); circumcision under unsanitary conditions; skin diseases (such as lichen sclerosus), etc. can all cause phimosis. Treatment must be surgically intervened, such as circumcision, back skin incision, and in some cases, frenulum plastic surgery.

2. There are strict indications for whether phimosis in children requires surgery. Generally speaking, surgical treatment can only be considered for true phimosis in children aged 5 to 6 years old. When choosing a hospital for surgery, it is recommended to go to a regular large hospital and ask a specialist to examine and diagnose and perform a standard penile circumcision. Do not be misled by the various excision procedures in advertisements.

3. The skin of a boy's penis is thin, elastic, and movable. At the front of the penis, the skin is wrinkled into a double layer that covers the glans penis and is called the foreskin. In medicine, phimosis refers to the narrowness of the foreskin opening, which prevents the foreskin from being turned upward to reveal the glans penis. When people with narrow foreskin opening urinate, the urine stream is thin and slow, and the foreskin sac may bulge into a ball shape. In severe cases, urination may be difficult. There are strict indications for whether phimosis in children requires surgery. Generally speaking, surgical treatment can only be considered for true phimosis in children aged 5 to 6 years old.
