What should children do if they have angular cheilitis? The treatment method is like this

The hot summer is the season when angular cheilitis is most prevalent. Children with low immunity are more vulnerable to the threat of angular cheilitis. So what should we do when children suffer from angular cheilitis? Many mothers don’t know much about this. In fact, when children suffer from angular cheilitis, they must be given oral vitamin B complex and apply a paste made of borax powder and honey topically.

1. What is angular cheilitis

Angular cheilitis is a common disease in children. Depending on the causes, it is divided into malnutrition-induced angular cheilitis, bacterial angular cheilitis, and fungal angular cheilitis. In general, many parents think that their children suffer from angular cheilitis because they are getting too hot. In fact, most children's angular cheilitis is malnutrition-related angular cheilitis, which is caused by nutritional deficiencies. Among them, angular cheilitis caused by vitamin B deficiency is the most common. The initial symptoms are redness and itching at the corners of the mouth, followed by epithelial shedding, erosion, infiltration or cracks. When the mouth is opened, it tears and bleeds easily, affecting eating and talking. When children's lips are dry, they like to lick them with their tongue. The purpose is to make the lips and corners of the mouth moisturized, which can give them a temporary sense of comfort. However, since saliva evaporates quickly when it comes into contact with dry air, this not only fails to solve the dryness problem, but on the contrary brings microorganisms in the saliva into the cracks, causing bacterial infection and aggravating the inflammation of the corners of the mouth.

2. Prevention methods of angular cheilitis

At present, there are many children suffering from angular cheilitis. We should take necessary measures to actively prevent it:

1. It is necessary to strengthen nutrition, pay attention to dietary balance, and not be partial or picky about food. Some children are partial or picky about food, which can easily lead to insufficient intake of riboflavin in the body. Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, is one of the important substances that promote redox in human cells. If the human body lacks riboflavin, it will affect the process of biological oxidation in the body and cause metabolic disorders, resulting in angular cheilitis, cheilitis, glossitis, dry mucous membranes and skin, etc. Because the human body cannot synthesize riboflavin, children should be taught not to be picky eaters. Usually, you should eat more foods rich in B vitamins, such as animal liver, lean meat, eggs, milk, soy products, carrots, fresh green leafy vegetables, etc., because B vitamins are easily soluble in water. When cooking, you should pay attention to prevent the loss of vitamins and try to use reasonable cooking methods. For example, do not over-wash the rice, wash the vegetables before cutting, and put them into the pot as soon as possible after cutting. You can add some vinegar when stir-frying. Also, you should drink more water and eat more foods such as pears, water chestnuts, lotus roots, etc. which have the effects of promoting salivation, quenching thirst, and nourishing yin.

2. Protect your facial skin, keep your lips clean and hygienic, and be sure to clean your lips after eating. When your lips are dry, you may want to apply a little glycerin or ointment to prevent cracking. Be careful not to lick your lips or bite your fingers. If you find your child has these bad habits, correct them in time. If you lick it with your tongue, the amylase, lysozyme, etc. in the saliva will remain in the corners of your mouth, forming a hypertonic environment, which will cause the area to become drier and thus cause erosion.

3. Treatment of angular cheilitis

Once a child suffers from angular cheilitis, he can take vitamin B complex and apply a paste made of borax powder and honey to the local area.

Warm reminder: If a child suffers from angular cheilitis, parents should be aware that it is most likely caused by malnutrition, and they should pay more attention to dietary balance in daily life.
