What does phimosis look like in children? I understand everything after reading it.

Many people don’t know what phimosis looks like in children. In fact, it is easy to understand. Some little boys have a relatively small foreskin opening, which prevents the glans penis from exposing normally. Therefore, it can be easily seen as long as the child reaches puberty.

1. Phimosis refers to a condition in which the foreskin opening is too small, so that the foreskin cannot be turned up to reveal the glans penis; excessive foreskin refers to a condition in which the foreskin covers the entire glans penis, but the foreskin opening is not small and can be turned up to reveal the glans penis. Infants and young children with excessive foreskin are often physiological. If the glans penis still cannot be exposed after puberty, it can be called phimosis or excessive foreskin.

2. Most newborn baby boys have phimosis, which is physiological phimosis. However, after 3-4 months, as they grow older, physiological phimosis will gradually disappear. If phimosis still exists after the age of 3, it is not physiological and will not heal naturally. Appropriate treatment should be carried out.

3. There are two types of phimosis, one is pseudo-phimosis and the other is true phimosis. In the case of pseudo-phimosis, when the penis is erect, you only need to pull it down with your hands to expose the glans penis, and it may even break out automatically during erection. If phimosis is not treated in time, the glans penis will be locked by the foreskin for a long time, causing poor development of the penis after puberty and affecting sexual life.

Types of phimosis in children

There are many types of phimosis, the most common ones are:

1. Congenital adhesion type: The glans penis is completely covered by the foreskin, and the inner layer of the foreskin is adhered to the glans penis, which has a great impact on sexual life. The main reason is that the glans penis cannot come into direct contact with the vagina, so the patient cannot experience sexual pleasure and cannot complete a normal sexual life. This condition is serious and should be removed surgically.

2. Phimosis type: The foreskin can be turned back with difficulty, but the foreskin opening is tight. When it is turned back forcibly, the narrow foreskin opening gets stuck on the glans penis and cannot be restored. The patient will experience heart-wrenching pain, congestion and edema of the glans penis, and even necrosis. This is what is commonly known as phimosis.

3. Half-covered type: Only 1/2 of the glans is exposed normally. Although the glans can remain dry, if the foreskin opening is too narrow, the glans will swell with blood during the erection and cannot pass through the narrow foreskin opening, causing excessive stretching of the foreskin and causing severe pain. Even if it passes through the foreskin opening, the narrow foreskin opening will be swollen by the enlarged glans and cause tearing pain.

4. Full foreskin: The foreskin covers the entire glans penis, but can be turned back to expose the glans penis. The foreskin can be repositioned. This situation is more common, and patients will ignore treatment if they do not have obvious signs. The full-coverage type is most likely to cause balanitis and urethritis. If the inflammation is not treated in time, it will spread deep into the body to cause prostatitis, vas deferens obstruction, etc., which is more harmful than the half-coverage type.
