However, some children’s skin remains yellow all the time, while others only develop yellow skin when they grow up a little. This makes us parents and friends very worried. So why do children have yellow skin? Here is the answer for you.

1. Jaundice: It is seen in bile duct obstruction, liver cell damage or hemolytic diseases. Due to the increase of bilirubin in the blood, the skin and mucous membranes turn yellow. In the early stage or mild case, it is seen in the sclera, and in more obvious cases, it is seen in the skin. Pathological causes, commonly seen in: anemia, hepatitis B, cirrhosis, etc.

2. Food-induced yellowing of the skin: Carrots, pumpkins, orange juice, water spinach, cabbage, mango and other vegetables and fruits are rich in carotene. Excessive intake can cause carotenemia, which causes yellowing of the skin, most obviously on the palms and soles, followed by the face and behind the ears. In severe cases, the skin of the entire body can be affected, but it generally does not occur in the sclera and oral mucosa.

3. Drug-induced jaundice: Long-term use of drugs containing yellow pigments, such as atadipine, furans, etc., can also cause the skin to turn yellow. In severe cases, sclera jaundice may occur.
