What to do if a newborn has a fever or cold

Newborns are most susceptible to illness because their resistance is the weakest at this time. When the resistance is poor, many diseases will begin to invade the child's body. Many parents are afraid that the newborn will catch a cold, so they wrap the child thickly as soon as he is born. In fact, this is not okay. Children are not as afraid of cold as we think. When the child is wrapped too thickly, the child is prone to fever and heat cold. So what should we do when the newborn has this heat cold?

Children with heat and cold should pay more attention to care

In modern medicine, the respiratory tract above the larynx is called the upper respiratory tract, which includes the nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx and other parts. Inflammatory lesions in the above-mentioned areas caused by various pathogenic bacteria are called upper respiratory tract infections, including rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, pharyngoconjunctival fever, epiglottitis, laryngitis and tonsillitis. Upper respiratory tract infection occurs all year round. Those that occur in the summer are what we commonly call "heat colds."

Upper respiratory tract infection in summer

According to statistics, normal children may suffer from respiratory infections an average of 6-7 times a year. Some children may even get sick more than a dozen times a year. Although upper respiratory tract infections are most common in winter and spring, parents should not ignore their children's "heat colds" in summer.

The causes of upper respiratory tract infections in children may be related to the following factors:

pathogen

There are many pathogenic microorganisms that cause upper respiratory tract infections, of which viruses account for about 90%, and others include bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia, etc. Children are generally susceptible and can be infected repeatedly. Common viruses include rhinovirus, coronavirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, coxsackievirus, etc. Common bacteria include streptococci, pneumococci, staphylococci, etc. The pathogens that cause the disease are mainly transmitted through respiratory droplets and direct contact.

Children's body defense function is not perfect

Children's respiratory system is not yet fully developed, the respiratory tract lumen is relatively narrow, mucus secretion is less, and ciliary movement is weak, making them susceptible to infection. At the same time, children's immune function is relatively weaker than that of adults, especially infants and young children. The antibodies obtained from their mothers at birth have disappeared, and their own antibodies are not enough to fight pathogens. In addition, malnutrition, allergies and lack of exercise will affect the child's immune function.

Environmental factors

If a child is in an environment with severe air pollution, such as family members smoking indoors; cross-infection in homes, schools, hospitals and other places can also lead to upper respiratory tract infections.

Symptoms and treatment of "heat cold"

The symptoms of "heat cold" are mild, with only nasal symptoms, such as nasal congestion, clear runny nose, sneezing, and mild cough. It will heal within 3-4 days. If the pharynx is involved, there will usually be fever, sore throat, and swollen and painful tonsils. Fever usually lasts 2-3 days.

Newborns' heat and colds must be treated in time, but when treating children's heat and colds, you must know the cause of the child's heat and cold. Heat and colds are often caused by the child's heat. If the child is heated, do not rush to cool the child down. Do it slowly. Sudden cooling may cause the child to catch a cold, which will be more difficult to treat.
