What is the reason for a four-month-old baby to have diarrhea?

Infant diarrhea is a very common disease, especially in summer. Mothers may not pay attention to keeping their children warm, which may lead to diarrhea. Autumn is also a high-incidence season. Mothers must pay more attention. So what is the cause of infant diarrhea? Only by knowing the root cause of diarrhea can we effectively prevent diarrhea in infants. Let’s take a look at the causes that can cause diarrhea in infants.

There are two main causes of diarrhea in babies: non-infectious and infectious.

Non-infectious causes:

1. When the nutritional content of breast milk exceeds the physiological needs and digestive function of children, diarrhea will occur;

2. Improper feeding can cause diarrhea, which is mostly caused by artificial feeding. Diarrhea may occur after feeding due to irregular feeding schedules, excessive or insufficient feeding, or inappropriate food ingredients.

3. Sudden changes in climate and cold abdomen increase intestinal motility; overheated weather reduces the secretion of digestive juices. Thirst and excessive feeding increase the burden on the digestive tract, all of which can easily induce diarrhea.

Infectious causes:

1. Viral infection is rotavirus, which is the most common cause of diarrhea in infants and young children in autumn and winter;

2. Bacterial infections are mainly caused by Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae. Pathogenic microorganisms enter the digestive tract through contaminated food or water. The toxins of the pathogens cause digestive tract dysfunction and can cause diarrhea.

In addition to the methods introduced above, some babies may be allergic to breast milk or certain foods because their gastrointestinal function is not yet fully developed. This can also cause diarrhea in babies, which mothers need to pay more attention to. If the diarrhea is severe, it is best to go to a specialized hospital for treatment.
