Why do children have abdominal effusion after surgery?

We all know that some serious diseases require surgery to treat, and the surgery will cause some sequelae, such as pain, inflammation, and difficulty in movement. Abdominal surgery is very common. Stomach and intestinal diseases sometimes require surgery. However, sometimes it is found that abdominal fluid accumulates after surgery, even in children. Many parents are very worried. Today, the editor will talk about why children have abdominal fluid accumulation after surgery.

Problem Analysis: Excess free fluid accumulated in the abdominal cavity is called "ascites". Ascites can be part of systemic edema. Under normal circumstances, there can be a small amount of fluid in the abdominal cavity, but generally not more than 200 ml. The main causes of ascites are: cardiovascular disease, liver disease, kidney disease, malnutrition, etc. After a large amount of ascites is formed, proteinuria may occur and the urine volume may decrease. Patients with ascites may also have weakened or disappeared abdominal respiratory movements, accompanied by other symptoms. For example, those with congestive heart failure may have palpitations, shortness of breath, cough, hemoptysis, systemic edema, etc.; patients with tuberculous peritonitis may have fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, general abdominal discomfort or pain, etc., and it is more common in children and young people.

Treatment methods: 1. Systemic supportive treatment with a high-protein, high-calorie diet. Parenteral total intravenous nutrition, albumin infusion, etc. can support for a period of time. 2. Diuretic therapy can relieve abdominal distension symptoms. However, excessive diuresis can lead to dehydration, hypotension and electrolyte imbalance, and treatment needs to be adjusted. 3. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy uses different chemotherapy drugs according to the primary cancer. Commonly used drugs include mitomycin, doxorubicin, and cisplatin. 4. This year, elemene emulsion was used. After the ascites was drained, 400mg/ml was injected once a week and 10mg dexamethasone was injected at the same time for two weeks of treatment.

The above is what the author introduced to you about the causes of peritoneal effusion in children after surgery, as well as some treatment methods. It should be reminded that children must pay attention to rest after surgery, never let the wound split, maintain personal hygiene, eat a light diet, and avoid spicy food. Parents should especially remember this. I hope these can be helpful to everyone.
