What to do if your newborn baby hiccups

What to do if your newborn baby hiccups

Nowadays, people are living affluently. Many children will have hiccups when they are born. If a child who is just a few days old has this symptom, many parents will be very worried. They are also worried whether the child has a disease that causes this symptom. In fact, there are often reasons for children's hiccups. It may also be related to the child's diet. So what should you do if a newborn baby hiccups?

1. Pick up the baby, pat his back, feed him some hot water, and cover his chest and abdomen with warm clothes and blankets.

2. You can use toys to amuse your baby or play some soft music to divert his attention.

3. Stimulate the soles of the baby's feet and make him cry, which can stop the sudden contraction of the diaphragm. Generally, the hiccups will disappear naturally once the baby starts crying.

4. Use your fingertips to gently tickle the baby's lips or ears. The nerves around the lips and ears are more sensitive, tickling can relax them and the hiccups will disappear.

5. Hiccups are caused by irritation of the diaphragm. Most hiccups in children are caused by excessive inhalation of gas into the stomach. As long as you pat the baby's back in time to help expel gas, and then feed the child some water, the hiccups should be relieved soon.

6. This is mainly because the baby's stomach is not fully developed yet, and breastfeeding will cause the baby to inhale too much air. Therefore, it is best to pat the baby's back after feeding to reduce the phenomenon of hiccups. If the baby still hiccups, just give him some water.

7. When a newborn baby hiccups right after feeding, it may be because the baby is lying flat. Babies should not be laid flat after feeding. They will inhale a certain amount of air when feeding, which will cause bloating. Parents should hold the baby upright after feeding, with the baby's head on your shoulder, and gently pat the baby's back with your palms. Put the baby down after about half an hour. This can effectively prevent the baby from hiccups.

8. Incorrect posture when parents are feeding their babies can also cause newborn babies to hiccup. When feeding the baby, whether it is breastfeeding or feeding formula, the baby needs to sit diagonally on the parents' thighs. At the same time, the baby should not be fed too quickly when drinking milk to avoid choking.

If a child has hiccups, you should first find out what the cause of the hiccups is. If the child eats too much or has indigestion, he may have hiccups. At this time, you should reduce the child's food intake and give him more water. Also, remember to pat the child's back more often, so that the hiccups may be relieved and improved. You should also give the child more vegetables and fruits.
