How to care for children’s teeth during the period of tooth replacement?

Human teeth have two stages: deciduous teeth and permanent teeth. The period of deciduous teeth lasts throughout the infancy and childhood stages, while the permanent teeth that replace the deciduous teeth can accompany a person almost throughout his or her life. Children begin to change their teeth, which in another way reflects their growth. At this time, the child's teeth become very fragile and will bleed if touched. So what should parents pay attention to during the period when their children are changing their teeth? How to care for children's teeth during the period of tooth replacement?

1. Pay attention to caries of deciduous teeth. Tooth decay mostly occurs on the occlusal surface before the age of 5. If the teeth are not cleaned properly during the tooth replacement period and food residues remain in the gaps between the teeth, the space between the teeth will begin to rot. Many parents ignore their children’s deciduous tooth caries, thinking that deciduous teeth will fall out anyway and will not affect permanent teeth. In fact, if caries of deciduous teeth are not treated in time, it will seriously affect the growth of permanent teeth and even cause serious deformities of permanent teeth.

2: Eruption of permanent teeth. Generally, deciduous teeth will fall out automatically before permanent teeth erupt. However, in some children, the permanent teeth have already grown out, but the corresponding deciduous teeth are still stubborn and refuse to "give way", forcing the permanent teeth to grow from the inside of the deciduous teeth, forming "double teeth". Dr. Lin pointed out that when double teeth appear, the deciduous teeth should be extracted, otherwise the teeth will be unevenly arranged and the bite will be incorrect.

3. Let children get rid of bad habits such as licking teeth. Children's tooth replacement period is relatively long, generally taking 6 to 7 years. During this long period, if children have some bad habits, such as biting lips, licking lips, biting tongue, sticking out tongue, sucking fingers, biting nails, etc., it may cause deformities such as malocclusion, malocclusion and facial asymmetry, affecting tooth function and facial appearance. Therefore, we should always pay attention to correcting these bad habits of theirs. If you have habits that you cannot correct yourself, you should see a dental specialist as soon as possible and wear braces to help correct them.

The editor would like to remind children who are in the tooth replacement period to keep their oral cavity clean. Pay special attention to the maintenance of your teeth, keep your mouth clean, brush your teeth in the morning and evening, and rinse your mouth after meals. If you have more dental problems that cannot be solved by yourself, such as tooth lesions and large gaps between teeth, you should see a dentist as soon as possible.
