What causes hiccups in infants and young children?

The baby's body is very fragile, so once the baby shows abnormal symptoms, parents should pay attention to the baby's symptoms and check to avoid danger to the baby. In particular, parents should pay attention to avoid the baby being sick without being discovered, especially when the baby has hiccups. So what is the cause of hiccups in infants and young children? Let me introduce it to you below.

Hiccups in newborns or infants are mostly caused by three reasons: First, due to improper care, exogenous wind and cold, the cold and hot air is reversed and not smooth, as the saying goes, it is "drinking cold wind" which induces hiccups; second, due to improper milk and food. If the milk and food are not moderate, or too much raw and cold milk is consumed, or too much cold medicine is taken, the qi will be stagnant, the spleen and stomach function will be weakened, and the qi movement will be abnormal, which will cause the stomach qi to go against the diaphragm and induce hiccups; third, due to eating too quickly or eating after crying, choking for a while can also induce hiccups.

Hiccups are a common symptom in infancy. Constant hiccups are caused by diaphragm spasm and continuous contraction of the diaphragm. The movement of the diaphragm is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. One or two months after the birth of a child, the autonomic nervous system that regulates the diaphragm is not yet fully developed. When the child is slightly stimulated, such as breathing in cold air or sucking milk too quickly, the diaphragm will suddenly contract, causing rapid inhalation and a "hiccup" sound. If the baby does not have any illness and suddenly burps, and the burps are strong and continuous, it is mostly caused by cold. You can feed the baby some warm water and cover the chest and abdomen with warm clothes and quilts. If your baby hiccups frequently and the episodes last for a long time, you can soak a little orange peel in boiling water and feed it to your baby when the water becomes warm. This can relieve the hiccups.

If you can smell a sour and rancid smell when your baby hiccups, it is mostly caused by indigestion. You can massage your baby's chest and abdomen, or drink some hawthorn water, and the hiccups will stop. Of course, when your baby burps, you can also tease him with toys and play some soft music to divert his attention; or pat him on the back to reduce the frequency of burping. Hiccups can occur if the diaper is wet or the baby drinks too much milk at one time. It should be noted that it is best not to breastfeed when you have hiccups.

The above is my opinion on this issue. If the baby has the above problems, parents should not worry too much and should take the baby for examination to ensure the baby's health and safety, avoid danger to the baby due to the above problems, especially pay attention to avoid choking the baby. Finally, I wish the baby healthy growth.
