Thirteen-month-old baby food recipes

After the baby has been fed with breast milk for a period of time, his body gradually develops and grows, and breast milk can no longer fill the baby. At this time, the mother should add some complementary foods to the milk powder while feeding the baby with breast milk. The appropriate addition of complementary foods can greatly enhance the baby's immunity. Parents of thirteen-month-old babies should make a plan for adding complementary foods. The following is an introduction to the complementary food recipes for thirteen-month-old babies.

The baby feeding report adopted by the World Health Organization in 2005 proposed that in the baby feeding process, exclusive breastfeeding is best for the first 6 months, and complementary foods can be added after 6 months. However, each baby is different. For babies who are mixed-fed or formula-fed, the time can be earlier. How do you know when it’s time to start adding complementary foods? Pay attention to these 4 signals your baby is sending you.

1. Always feel hungry

When breastfeeding exceeds 8 to 10 times a day and formula feeding exceeds 1000 ml a day, the baby is still not satisfied and cries for more food within two hours after feeding.

2. Unsatisfactory weight gain

When the weight of a full-term baby reaches more than twice its birth weight (or about 6.8 kg), and the weight of a low-birth-weight baby reaches 6 kg, according to the normal standard of 450g-675g weight gain per month for babies aged 2-6 months, the baby may be given enough milk but still fail to gain weight.

3. I feel greedy when I see adults eating

When the baby starts to be interested in adults' meals, for example, he likes to grab what his mother is eating, or moves his mouth when he sees adults eating.

4. Ability to swallow food

When you put the mushy food to your baby's mouth with a small spoon, he will open his mouth, stop spitting out the food, and be able to swallow it smoothly without choking.

Second, the addition of complementary food should be gradual

For babies, adding complementary foods is a milestone in their growth. New textures, flavors, and varieties are all challenges for them. They are novel and accompanied by various discomforts. Therefore, you must be patient and take your time when adding complementary foods to your baby.

1. Add only one food at a time

When adding complementary foods to your baby, never add several ingredients at once, as this is likely to cause discomfort to your baby. The correct approach is to start with iron-containing rice cereal, then add one food at a time, and observe for 3 to 5 days after adding them. Only continue to add new complementary foods if there are no abnormal reactions.

2. The amount should be increased from small to large

It is best to start with the tip of a small spoon for the first spoonful of complementary food to see if the baby can adapt to the new texture of food. If he does not reject it, gradually increase the amount. The same goes for adding food, such as egg yolk. Initially, you can start with 1/4 or even less, and after a few days, change to 1/3, 1/2, or even the entire egg yolk.

3. Texture from fine to coarse

In order to allow the baby's throat and stomach to adapt to complementary foods, when adding complementary foods, pay attention to the principle of food texture from fine to coarse. Specifically, babies aged 6 months should eat smooth puree, babies aged 7-8 months should eat slightly thicker puree, babies aged 9-10 months should eat soft chunks, and babies aged 11-12 months should eat small soft chunks.
