Reasons why newborns do not gain weight

After the child was born, as new parents, we paid attention to his growth every day and hoped that he would be healthy and strong. Generally speaking, a newborn's weight increases by 600 grams per month after 6 months of birth, and then by 300 grams per month after 6 months. If a child's weight does not reach this standard at a specific stage, it can be judged that the child's weight gain is insufficient. So what are the reasons why newborns do not gain weight?

The reasons why newborns do not gain weight need to be considered from the following three aspects:

(1) Disease factors: After 4 months of age, the various immune substances and nutrients (iron, zinc, etc.) brought from the mother have been basically exhausted. Therefore, children over 6 months old are more susceptible to illness. Diarrhea and repeated respiratory tract infections are one of the reasons for insufficient weight gain in children after 6 months. Therefore, in order to reduce the chance of children getting sick after six months of age, it is necessary to increase children's outdoor exercise and nutritional intake.

(2) Feeding factors: Improper feeding is the main reason for insufficient weight gain in children after six months of age. After a child is six months old, untimely and insufficient addition of complementary foods can cause feeding difficulties for the child, insufficient nutrient intake, and slow weight gain. Improper methods of adding complementary foods, such as adding a certain type of food too early or adding too much complementary food for the first time, can also make it difficult for the child's gastrointestinal tract to adapt and lead to indigestion. If this happens more often, the child will gain weight slowly, or even stop gaining weight or lose weight. Therefore, when adding complementary foods, the principle of gradual progress should be followed, both in terms of quantity and type. This is a necessary way to ensure that children eat normally and obtain nutrition.

(3) Psychological factors: Some children eat well, consume enough food, sleep well, and are not sick, but their weight is still unsatisfactory. At this time, we should consider whether the child lacks maternal care and appropriate stimulation, such as: touching, kissing, teasing, playing, talking, etc. These are indispensable parts of a child's normal development. The quiet environment often makes children feel bored, and some children will cry. Children who have been accustomed to this environment since birth often show poor weight gain. In addition, if parents pay too much attention to their children, it will make their children nervous and tired, which may also cause abnormal weight gain in their children.

Why is the newborn not gaining weight? The above are the reasons introduced by the experts. As a mother, if you find that your child is obviously underweight in life, then please pay attention. This may be a physical condition of the child or your feeding method is not correct. At this time, you must go to the hospital for examination and consultation.
