What to do if your baby boy has urinary tract infection

Women's urethra is naturally shorter and located lower, closer to the anus, making them more susceptible to urinary tract infections than men, but this does not mean that men will not suffer from this disease. A small number of babies will suffer from urinary tract infections. If the baby is a boy, a routine urine test should be done on the baby and the baby should maintain good drinking habits. The following introduces the treatment methods for urinary tract infections in male babies. Let’s take a look.

What is the cause of urinary tract infection in little boys?

1. The pathogens of urinary tract infection are mainly bacteria, and very few are viruses, fungi, mycoplasma, chlamydia and Trichomonas, etc. It is divided into simple and complicated urinary tract infection. The main bacteria in simple urinary tract infection are Escherichia coli; in complicated urinary tract infection, in addition to Escherichia coli, there is a significant increase in the number of Staphylococcus, Klebsiella, etc.

2. Normally there are a small number of bacteria in the urethra of children. When the body's resistance is reduced or the urethral mucosa is damaged, the bacteria can invade or ascend along the urethra and cause infection of the bladder, renal pelvis and renal interstitium.

Suggestions: It is recommended to check the child's urine routine, give the child anti-inflammatory drugs, and drink plenty of water.

3. Urinary tract infection, abbreviated as UTI, refers to urinary tract inflammation caused by pathogens invading the urinary tract mucosa or tissue. According to the site of infection, urinary tract infection can be divided into upper urinary tract infection and lower urinary tract infection. The former is pyelonephritis, and the latter is mainly cystitis.

Suggestions: In general, patients with urinary tract infection should drink more water and urinate frequently. Drinking at least 2 liters of water and urinating every 2-3 hours is the most practical and effective method.

4. Phimosis is an important cause of urinary tract infection in boys under 5 years old. Phimosis refers to the foreskin being turned up so that the glans penis or urethra opening cannot be exposed. Phimosis can cause some dirt to accumulate in the foreskin, which can easily cause infection. Therefore, when taking a bath, turn the foreskin more often and wash it frequently to prevent urinary tract infections.

5. Children's urinary tract infection should be treated in time to avoid retrograde infection or prolonged inflammation. You can take anti-inflammatory drugs and drink plenty of water. Generally, the treatment will be cured quickly. You can take children's cefaclor granules.

Nursing of urinary tract infection in children

1. Symptomatic care: Infants and young children with urinary tract infection often have high fever, which can be cooled by physical cooling (cold compress on forehead, warm water bath or alcohol bath) or medication. Children should be encouraged to drink more water or other beverages they like to increase urine volume, which is beneficial for flushing the urethra, hindering bacterial growth and reproduction, and promoting the excretion of bacterial toxins and inflammatory secretions. Change diapers frequently and keep the perineum clean and dry. Diapers should be washed and dried in boiling water or boiled to disinfect.

2. Observe the side effects of the drugs and take them according to the course of treatment.

3. Prevent urinary tract infection: Make sure young children do not wear open-crotch pants, change diapers for babies frequently, and wash their buttocks after defecation to keep them clean. Girls should wipe from front to back when cleaning their vulva, while boys should fold up the foreskin when washing. If the glans is red, apply antibiotic ointment. If the foreskin is adhered by urine scale, go to the pediatric surgery clinic to separate it in order to reduce irritation to the urethral opening and avoid descending urinary tract infection. Actively treat diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, sepsis and other diseases to prevent bacteria from invading the urinary tract through the blood circulation and causing infection.
