Why does a child sleep with his mouth open?

Some parents will observe their babies' sleeping conditions and find that their babies often sleep with their mouths open. In fact, the reasons why babies sleep with their mouths open are mostly related to the nose, because our respiratory system generally needs the nose to perform the first step. If the nose is blocked, we can only breathe through the mouth. So why do children sleep with their mouths open?

1. Nose clogged with mucus

Babies' nostrils are originally tight, and because of crying or not cleaning their nostrils for a long time, the mucus solidifies and they have difficulty breathing.

If the mother finds that the baby's nostrils are indeed blocked during examination, she can use baby saline spray to soften the baby's nasal mucus and then use a baby nasal aspirator to suck it out. Try not to use cotton swabs to clean your nostrils, as this can easily injure your nasal cavity.

2. Nasal congestion caused by allergies or colds

The baby's nasal congestion is not obvious when he is playing, but it gets worse when he lies down to sleep. If parents do not pay close attention, babies may develop serious respiratory diseases.

If you find this to be the case, be sure to keep your home clean. Dust, fungus, droplets, perfume, and cigarettes are all bad for your baby's breathing.

In addition, parents also need to give their babies more exercise and massage to enhance their immunity. If your baby has a runny nose for more than 2 weeks, you must go to the hospital and see a doctor for treatment to avoid delaying the disease.

3. Too big tongue

This situation is relatively rare. When a baby with a large tongue lies on his back, his tongue will push back and block his throat.

How to preliminarily check whether the baby has a big tongue? The mother can carefully observe whether the baby likes to stick out the tongue. If the baby never or rarely sticks out the tongue, the mother should go to the hospital for further consultation with a dentist.

4Allergic rhinitis or deviated nasal septum

Allergic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum, etc. can all lead to breathing difficulties, and children must breathe through their mouths to get enough oxygen.

When the child's deciduous teeth have fully erupted, parents should pay attention to their child's sleeping habits. Once you find that your child cannot close his mouth, you should take him to the hospital to check his mouth and facial features in time to find out the cause and start treatment early.
