Newborn care and feeding?

Newborn babies need extra care in terms of care and feeding. Since many organs of newborn babies are not yet fully developed, parents need to observe and care for them carefully. In particular, the baby's skin is relatively delicate. Parents must take good care of the baby's skin. It is best to choose cotton clothes. In terms of feeding, parents also need to feed small meals frequently and not feed the baby too much at one time.

feed

Newborns have relatively poor digestive functions, so breast milk is their most ideal "food" and breastfeeding is generally recommended. If breast milk is insufficient, infant formula can be used to supplement it. Because the stomach of newborns is not yet fully developed, they often spit up milk after drinking milk. Don't be scared, expectant father. Remember to burp your baby after each feeding. This can greatly reduce the occurrence of spitting up milk.

bath

When bathing a newborn, the room temperature should be kept at 26℃~28℃. The water temperature is also important, 38-39 degrees Celsius in summer and 40-41 degrees Celsius in winter. When cleaning the vulva of a baby girl, you should wipe from the perineum to the anus to prevent feces around the anus from contaminating the vagina and urethra. After bathing, use a soft dry towel to dry your baby.

Preventing infection

Newborns have poor resistance and are easily infected, so you should try to reduce the number of times relatives and friends visit your baby. When caring for a newborn, you must pay attention to hygiene. Before each care, you should wash your hands with soap. This is very important for preventing neonatal infection. It is best for people at home who have a cold to avoid contact with newborns.

Five senses care

Pay attention to the cleanliness of the face, external auditory canal opening, nostrils, etc., but do not dig the external auditory canal and nasal cavity. Because the oral mucosa is delicate and rich in blood vessels, it is very easy to be abraded and cause infection. Therefore, you should not scrub your mouth hard frequently, and you should not use a needle, especially a dirty needle, to pick and grind the small white spots on the gums - epithelial beads (commonly known as "horse teeth" or "plate teeth"), to prevent bacteria from entering the body and causing sepsis.

Defecation observation

Most babies begin to excrete meconium within 12 hours after birth. The meconium is dark green, sticky, and has no odor. It is completely excreted within about 3 to 4 days. The baby's stool is generally not quantitative, and the key to determining whether it is normal is to look at its color and properties. Generally, the stools of babies who are breastfed are yellow or golden yellow and pasty; the stools of babies who are bottle-fed are light yellow or earthy gray, pasty and dry; the stools of babies who are mixed-fed are slightly dark brown and pasty.

Post-defecation care

Be sure to wipe his buttocks clean with a warm towel after each diaper change. If he poops, wash his butt with warm water. Sometimes the baby's buttocks skin may become red due to irritation from urine. In this case, you can apply a little sterile vegetable oil.
