The harm of antipyretic drugs to babies

The harm of antipyretic drugs to babies

We all know that although antipyretics are effective and can quickly reduce fever, they also have great side effects. Therefore, when many babies have a fever, doctors will recommend that mothers use physical methods to reduce fever for their babies. They will not use antipyretics for babies unless they have no other choice, because the side effects of antipyretics are relatively harmful to babies. So what are the hazards of antipyretics to babies?

The body temperature of a normal person is under the control of the body temperature regulation center, and the body's heat production and heat dissipation maintain a dynamic balance. Therefore, our body temperature remains within a relatively constant range. When various reasons cause the function of the body temperature regulation center to be impaired, heat production exceeds heat dissipation, and the body temperature rises beyond the normal range, which is called "fever", which is what we usually call "fever".

Fever in children is the most common symptom in children and is also the thing that parents worry about the most. Generally, when a baby has a fever, there must be inflammation. Although fever is not a good thing, it is not necessarily a bad thing! It is precisely the body's protective response.

Children with fever should make sure to drink plenty of water. If the child's temperature is less than 38.5℃, please try to use physical cooling methods: warm water bath, ice compress on the head or use a cooling patch.

Antipyretics are a very good treatment if used properly, but improper use will not only fail to cure the disease but will also cause more illness, more pain, and even endanger life, such as causing acute allergic interstitial nephritis, acute renal failure, abnormal liver function, thrombocytopenic purpura, granulocytopenia, various rashes, lymphadenopathy, joint pain, drug fever, etc.

The casual and long-term abuse of antipyretic and analgesic drugs can cause serious harm to the body, so we must prevent it. Do not abuse drugs at will, and use antipyretic and analgesic drugs correctly. Patients with fever should go to the hospital for treatment. Under the guidance of a doctor, the cause of the disease should be discovered as early as possible and treated accordingly. Fever is only one of the symptoms of the disease. Taking antipyretic analgesics can only temporarily improve the symptoms, not the fundamental cause of the disease. In addition, for general upper respiratory tract infections and other febrile diseases, fever is a self-defense function of the body against the invasion of pathogens. In addition to severe high fever that can affect organ function, such as convulsions and seizures in children with high fever, which require immediate cooling, general fever, such as body temperature maintained at 38

If the temperature is below 5℃, you can also lower it by resting, drinking plenty of water, or using physical cooling methods. Don't be too aggressive in taking antipyretics. Remember that antipyretic and analgesic tablets should not be used casually.
