Newborn baby's forehead does not twitch

In recent years, the number of children around us has gradually increased. For some new parents, the arrival of a newborn baby simply provides a lot of happiness and joy to the family. However, many parents do not know much about parenting knowledge, which will cause more and more babies to have some defects and physical deficiencies. Let us now understand what is going on with the newborn baby's forehead not jumping.

The anterior fontanelle is located at the front of the child's head. It is diamond-shaped and about the size of an adult's thumb at birth (1.5 to 2 cm, the distance between the midpoints of the opposite sides). Because the brain grows slightly faster than the skull in the first few months after birth, the anterior fontanelle of a normal child may slightly increase with the increase of head circumference during this stage, but it generally does not exceed 3 cm and does not protrude outward. The child also does not show symptoms such as excessive sweating, night terrors, and irritability. If the size of the anterior fontanelle exceeds 3 cm, or is accompanied by other abnormal symptoms such as excessive sweating, night terrors, irritability, etc., you should consider whether you have "calcium deficiency" or other brain diseases, and ask a doctor to check. The anterior fontanelle usually starts to gradually shrink again around 6 months after birth, and generally closes between 1 and 1.5 years old.

The surface of the fontanelle is the scalp, underneath it is the meninges, and then the brain and cerebrospinal fluid. Place your finger gently on the fontanelle and you can feel the beating. That is because the cerebrospinal pressure changes with the heart beat and blood pressure, which is consistent with the pulse. When a normal baby is sitting, the fontanelle is slightly sunken. Some people believe that the fontanelle should not be touched, and some even say that touching it will make the baby mute. As a result, dirty black scabs accumulate on the baby's fontanelle, which is very unhygienic. The fontanelle should be cleaned like other parts of the scalp, but be more gentle when washing. The posterior fontanelle is located at the back of the baby's head, at the intersection of the suture between the occipital bone and the two parietal bones. It is small and sometimes even difficult to feel. The posterior fontanelle is almost closed when the baby is born, or can only accommodate the tip of a finger, and closes about 2-4 months after birth.

There are large individual differences in the time of closure of the anterior fontanelle. Most of them close between 12-18 months, but some individuals close earlier. Early closure may restrict the expansion of the head volume, but it is not absolute. It also depends on whether the baby's head circumference grows normally, and observe whether there is any lag in motor behavior and intellectual development. If all aspects of development are normal, there is no need to worry too much, and it is not necessarily microcephaly.
