Can a newborn baby wash his face?

Many new parents have no idea how to take care of a newborn and are not clear about what they can and cannot do. Many parents want their newborns to be clean every day so that they can look fresh and attractive, so they wash their newborns’ faces and bodies every day. But should a newborn baby wash its face? Here we will explain to new parents under what circumstances a newborn baby can wash its face and take a bath.

1. Can newborns with eczema wash their faces?

It can be washed, but don't use hot water. Use slightly cooler water and make sure to keep it clean and dry.

Because water stains on the body will aggravate neonatal eczema and even cause eczema breakage and skin ulcers, parents must wipe off the water stains on their babies after bathing them during the period of neonatal eczema.

Recommendation: It is recommended that babies with eczema should reduce the number of baths, preferably with warm water at 36℃~38℃. Each bathing time should not exceed 5 minutes, and it is best to use only clean water. Because the baby's sebum layer is thin, high water temperature or long time will accelerate sebum loss, making the skin prone to dryness and aggravating eczema. After washing, you should wipe off the moisture on the baby's body and apply skin moisturizing oil to prevent the skin from drying out.

2. Nursing of neonatal eczema

1. Since eczema is afraid of heat, do not cover your baby too tightly, which may make the eczema worse.

2. Keep skin clean and avoid irritation.

3. Do not use soap containing fragrance or alkaline when cleaning, just water will do. No cosmetics are used except for facial oil suitable for babies.

4. Most ointments with good therapeutic effects contain hormones. Excessive use of these drugs will be absorbed by the skin and cause side effects. Children will often relapse after stopping the medication. If eczema becomes purulent or the child develops a fever, the patient should go to the hospital for treatment in time. It is not advisable to apply the product to a large area for a long time.

5. If the baby has systemic eczema, he or she needs to take some desensitizing drugs, but they must be used under the guidance of a doctor.

6. To prevent scratching the skin, children’s nails should be trimmed regularly, their hands should be washed or they should wear gloves.

7. Pay attention to your diet, eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, lean meat, etc., and eat mung beans and loofah often. If a food allergy is suspected, the breastfeeding mother should also stop eating it. Avoid spicy and irritating foods, seafood such as fish and shrimp, and citrus fruits.
