What to do if your child has a bump on his head

Children are more lively and like to play and fight outdoors. Children are very likely to bump into things when they are running and jumping. If they accidentally hit their heads against a hard surface, a bump will appear on their heads. A bump on the head is very painful. You can choose to rub it with your hands, which can promote blood circulation and get better faster. Let’s take a closer look at what to do if a child gets a bump on the head?

Methods/Steps

Most of the collisions in infants and young children are passive, such as when their forehead hits an adult's teeth or head while playing; when they fall out of bed and hit something while sleeping; or when an adult does not hold them well and they bump into or fall somewhere. Generally, in mild cases, apply some cooking oil, children's pp cream, or blood-dispersing ointment and it will be healed in two days.

If the lump is large, you can use cold compress to stop the bleeding immediately. Do not rub it, which will aggravate the rupture of the capillaries. After a while of cold compress, when the lump no longer grows larger, apply children's blood-dispersing ointment, and then apply hot compress to disperse the blood stasis after a day.

If the lump is accompanied by bleeding problems, you need to see a doctor. Do not bandage it casually to avoid traumatic infection and inflammation.

If a big bump appears after the back of the head hits the ground, you need to observe whether it is subcutaneous congestion or soft tissue injury. Generally, the child will cry very hard but have no abnormal reaction, so you can treat it by applying cold compress first, then applying medicine, and then hot compress.

If the child's behavior is abnormal, with symptoms such as convulsions, vomiting, and drowsiness, he or she must be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment immediately to rule out concussion and intracranial problems! Comfort the child as much as possible and avoid excitement.

When an adult hits his head with a big bump, the external force must have been very strong. If it has not ruptured and the lump is not very large, you can apply light pressure and cold compress with ice. The pain and swelling will be relieved after ten minutes or so. In the later stage, you can apply some safflower oil or blood stasis cream, take Panax notoginseng tablets orally, and apply hot compress to disperse blood stasis after ten hours. You can also use boiled eggs for hot compress.

If the lump is severely congested, you need to go to the hospital to drain the blood and receive appropriate treatment; if you experience dizziness, vomiting, drowsiness, or convulsions, you need to go to the hospital immediately to check for brain injuries and other problems caused by the impact.

Some people hit their heads frequently and simply deal with the impact themselves or endure the pain. These people think that the head is made of bones that cannot be broken. However, the brain in the skull is soft tissue, and the brain nerves are very fragile. When the skull is hit, the brain will be concussed. If the concussion is strong, it will damage the brain nerves. I hit my head and got a big bump on it. The bump disappeared soon, but my vision gradually became blurred and I often had tinnitus. I went to the hospital for a check-up and found that the blood congestion in my brain was compressing the optic and auditory nerves.
