What should I do if my baby eats jujube pits?

Red dates have high nutritional value. Whether eaten directly, brewed into tea, or made into pastries, eating them regularly is very good for our health. Red dates taste sweet and many children like to eat them. The problem is that the pits of red dates are very hard and pointed at both ends. If a child accidentally swallows the pits while eating, the consequences can be very serious and need to be dealt with promptly. So, what should we do if our baby eats date pits? Let’s take a look at the solution below.

Foreign objects stuck in the throat are very dangerous. When foreign objects are lodged in the glottis or trachea and cause complete obstruction, sudden death may occur. The following measures can be taken to deal with children who accidentally swallow foreign objects:

1. Upper and middle abdominal pressure method (HEimliCh technique): If the child is older, conscious and able to stand, the rescuer wraps his arms around the child's abdomen from behind, with the thumbs facing the child's upper abdomen. One hand holds the other hand to forcefully impact and compress the child's abdomen, repeatedly.

2. Riding on the body and pushing the abdomen: If the sick child falls into a coma, call 120 immediately. At the same time, make the sick child lie on his back. The rescuer rides on the sick child and places the base of both palms on the midline of the sick child's abdomen slightly above the navel. Push quickly and forcefully in the direction of the head 5 times. If the foreign body is not coughed out, repeat the push several times. If the sick child is an infant, the rescuer should sit down and let the sick child lean his back on the rescuer's legs. Then, use the index and middle fingers of both hands to squeeze the patient's upper abdomen backwards repeatedly.

3. Back patting method: First let the patient bend over as much as possible and lower his head as much as possible, then use your palms to pat the patient's back continuously to promote the expulsion of foreign matter. If the sick child is an infant, support his chest with one palm, turn his head and face downward, tilt his body, and use the other hand to pat the center of his back.

4. Send to hospital: Even when the child's choking symptoms are alleviated, the presence of foreign matter cannot be ruled out, and the child should be sent to the hospital for examination in time. Because when tracheal foreign body occurs, part of the foreign body may remain in the trachea or bronchus of appropriate size, the child's symptoms may be alleviated or disappear.
