Many trainee mothers generally have very little parenting experience and cannot accurately judge some of the physical conditions of their babies. However, it is actually more important to judge whether the baby's vision is normal. So how do you judge whether the baby's eyes are normal? Now let's learn and master some methods that are suitable for us to judge whether the baby's eyes are normal based on our own actual situation. 1. Basic Observation Light and tears Newborn babies react to light. If the baby has no sense of darkness or light, it is abnormal. If your baby is born with tearful eyes and often has eye mucus, secretions, or symptoms of infection and inflammation, he or she may have congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction. eyeball The baby's eyes can fixate when he is 2 months old. At this time, you can observe whether the baby's eyes have tremors. If the baby's eyes cannot be fixed and are always moving (it may be both eyes or just one eye), it means that the vision is not very good. Alternatively, you can use a brightly colored toy ball to observe. After attracting the baby's attention, slowly move the ball and observe whether the baby's eyes can move with the ball. cornea The average size of a baby's normal cornea (black part of the eyeball) is 9.8mm. If the black part of the eyeball is too large (greater than 12mm within 1 year old), and there are symptoms of photophobia, tearing, or even corneal opacity (black part of the eyeball turns white), then there may be symptoms of congenital glaucoma. pupil Take a small flashlight and shine it into both of your baby's eyes in turn to see if the pupils contract, if the reactions of the two eyes are symmetrical, and if there is any white in the pupils. A normal pupil should be black. When exposed to light or photographed in a dark place, it will turn red or yellow-orange due to light reflection. If you notice white pupils, you should see a doctor as soon as possible to confirm whether you have eye diseases such as congenital cataracts or retinoblastoma. 2. Get in touch with nature After your baby is 4 months old, take him outdoors more often and let him have extensive contact with nature. At this time, the baby's vision is developing rapidly and the retinal macular cells have also completed development. Receiving more natural visual stimulation is very helpful for the development process of "emmetropization" (i.e. no hyperopia or myopia) of vision. |
