How to teach your child addition and subtraction

2. Practice makes perfect in learning.

Even before I gave them any questions to do, they were already enjoying doing all kinds of questions, including those involving continuous operations. Now he doesn’t even listen to the bedtime story every night and says to me, “Dad, how about I do some homework and then go to bed?” Of course, although children don’t need bedtime stories, it is still better to tell them. Besides, I also don’t like to see children become “learning machines”.

4. There is no need to deliberately maintain children’s interest in learning.

Although we always hope that children will maintain interest in learning, interest can never be forced. Interest should come from the child's heart and be out of spontaneous love, rather than being forced or educated. Therefore, parental guidance is very important, but this does not need to be deliberate. Many things will come naturally. Just like I never thought about cultivating Xiaorong and Xiaotao’s habit of liking to study, but the subtle influence has allowed them to always maintain a deep interest in learning.

Many parents tend to pay too much attention to their own ideas and expectations, which is actually selfish, and ignore their children's pursuits and happiness.

I have never deliberately cultivated Xiaorong and Xiaotao's interest in learning mathematics, reading, and initiative in literacy, but I will do three things: first, cultivate the habit, second, give them opportunities, and third, participate in them with great interest myself. Therefore, everything seems to happen naturally rather than deliberately. The interest in learning also arises naturally. It comes from life and serves oneself.
