What happens if a child eats cherries without spitting out the seeds?

Cherries are especially common in summer and are also a common fruit in our lives. Cherries are rich in protein. Many people can eat cherries, and eating cherries is good for people's health. However, some people accidentally eat cherry pits when eating cherries. This is more serious among children. So what will happen if children do not spit out the seeds when eating cherries?

1. Consequences

If a child swallows a cherry pit and it enters the trachea, the child will experience severe choking and coughing and his face will turn purple. If not, it has entered the stomach and it will not be a serious problem. For a 3-year-old child, some small objects should not be played with, such as marbles, peanuts, corn, soybeans, coins, buttons, etc. Once put into the mouth, they can easily enter the trachea and cause suffocation. Need to determine whether it is stuck in the throat. If so, timely treatment is needed to avoid the possibility of breathing difficulties and suffocation.

2. Symptoms

Cherry pits contain hydrogen cyanide. If you swallow them without cracking the hard shell of the cherry pits, it should be fine and will be excreted with digestion. If you crack the cherry pits, symptoms of mild poisoning include headache, dizziness, confusion and vomiting. Large amounts of hydrogen cyanide can cause difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat and kidney failure, and in the most severe cases, can lead to respiratory failure and death.

3. Others

Some foreign objects cannot be digested, such as fruit cores. If they do not get stuck in the throat after swallowing, it is actually okay, because the shape of the fruit core is very round. Regardless of whether its shell is hard or not (cherry cores are relatively hard, while longan cores are relatively soft), they can actually be excreted through the human stomach and intestines. But the whole process takes 3 to 4 days.
