Herpetic pharyngitis in children

Herpetic pharyngitis in children

What parents want most is that their children are healthy, and what they cannot accept the most is that their children are sick. However, there is no way around it. Young children generally have low body resistance and are easily troubled by diseases. For example, the health of the throat is prone to inflammation. So what should we do with herpetic pharyngitis in children? If treatment is needed, what is the most appropriate way? Let's talk about it below!

It is more common in children aged 3 to 10 years old, and is more common in summer and autumn. The same patient may have multiple episodes caused by different types of viruses. The incubation period is 3 to 10 days. It usually starts with a sudden high fever, which may reach a peak within 24 to 48 hours, rising to 39 to 41°C, accompanied by headache, throat discomfort, myalgia, etc. Infants and young children often have vomiting, refusal to eat, and even high fever convulsions. Older children and adults often have severe sore throat, dysphagia, myalgia in the limbs, anorexia and fatigue. After 4 to 5 days, small gray papules appear in the pharynx, which develop into blisters and ulcers within 24 hours. The characteristic lesions are surrounded by a 1 to 5 mm red halo. Lesions often appear on the anterior pillars of the tonsils, the edge of the soft palate, and the uvula. The ulcer heals after 1 to 5 days, and the fever usually subsides and the symptoms disappear within 3 days. The prognosis of this disease is good.

Precautions

Herpetic pharyngitis is a common disease among children in summer. To prevent this disease, parents should pay attention to maintaining their children's personal and indoor hygiene, and try not to take their children to noisy public places.

Folding care instructions

1. Herpetic pharyngitis causes obvious oral pain, and most children with the disease refuse to eat. Attention should be paid to nutritional supplements for children. Food should not be overheated and should be light, non-greasy, and nutritious. Intravenous nutritional mixtures can be used when eating is difficult.

2. To prevent secondary infection, use analgesics and antiviral drugs locally, and pay attention to oral hygiene. The utensils used by the sick children must be disinfected with boiling water to avoid infection.

3. Avoid eating irritating foods, such as sour, sweet, spicy, salty, hot, and hard foods, to avoid irritating the oral ulcer and causing pain[1].

4. Take 100 grams of mung beans, 50 grams of bitter gourd, 150 grams of coix seeds and 100 grams of rice to cook porridge. After cooling, give the child an appropriate amount.
