What is the effect of cephalosporin in children?

What is the effect of cephalosporin in children?

Cephalosporin is an antibiotic. Currently, this type of medicine is sold in pharmacies. But as we all know, the medication for children is different from that for adults, so there are cephalosporins specifically for children. It should be reminded that if a child uses this drug for the first time, a skin test must be done before use. So what are the effects of cephalosporin for children?

First, the efficacy of cephalosporin in children

Modern people take a lot of anti-inflammatory pills when they have a fever or a cold, regardless of whether they are taking the right pills or not, always thinking that anti-inflammatory drugs are "panaceas." This confused idea of using medicine must never be applied to children. Children have a different structure from adults and they are in their developmental period and need careful care from their parents.

Anti-inflammatory drugs are medically known as antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs. They are generally used to fight infections. Commonly used drugs include aspirin, paracetamol, etc. Common children's anti-inflammatory drugs include only three categories, namely penicillins, cephalosporins and macrolides.

Compared with penicillin, cephalosporin has the advantages of a broader antibacterial spectrum, resistance to penicillinase, high efficacy, low toxicity, and fewer allergic reactions. It occupies a very important position in anti-infection and anti-inflammatory treatment. It can be used for respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, urogenital system, gastrointestinal tract infections and sepsis, etc.

Second, what is the dosage of cephalosporin for children?

Children are prone to various inflammations, the most common of which are acute upper respiratory tract infections, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, acute bronchitis and pneumonia in children, so anti-inflammatory drugs are often needed.

Commonly used cephalosporin drugs include cefaclor and cefixime. Both cefaclor and cefixime belong to the class of beta-lactam antibiotics, with cefaclor being a second-generation antibiotic and cefixime being a third-generation antibiotic. Different drugs are used for different diseases in children. If it is a respiratory tract infection, it is recommended to choose cefaclor. If it is intestinal inflammation, it is recommended to choose cefixime for treatment. Try to use antibiotics for treatment under the doctor's advice.

Take cefuroxime granules with warm water. Dosage for adults and children weighing more than 30 kg: 100 mg (2 bags) each time, twice a day; for adults with severe infection, the dosage can be increased to 200 mg (4 bags) each time, twice a day. Children: Calculate the dosage based on 1.5-3.0 mg/kg each time, twice a day, or as directed by a physician.

Third, will children be allergic to cephalosporin?

The baby's physique varies from person to person. Some babies will have allergic reactions after taking cephalosporins, with red bumps appearing on their bodies. Most of them will have itching, and in severe cases, it can lead to symptoms such as respiratory depression. Anti-allergic drugs should be used promptly for treatment.

Cephalosporin and penicillin belong to the same general category, except that one is a natural penicillin and the other is a semi-synthetic penicillin. If you are allergic to one, you may also be allergic to the other.

In clinical practice, if patients are allergic to penicillins and cephalosporins, macrolides are often used as their substitutes. For example, "erythromycin, azithromycin" and so on. Moreover, if used for otitis media, erythromycin is more effective than cephalosporin and penicillin.

There are also cases where the baby was not allergic to cephalexin before, but later became allergic. In fact, this is normal because everyone's physical constitution changes. Since the body is now having an allergic reaction to this drug, symptoms will occur and this type of drug should no longer be used in the future. Other medicines can be used instead.
