Be careful with snoring in children, as the incidence rate is highest at this stage

Snoring in children is very serious. Among every 100 children, five will snore frequently. Snoring can cause poor sleep quality and physical development in children. Severe cases may be accompanied by cardiopulmonary failure and may even cause suffocation. Children who snore should attract the attention of parents.

What causes snoring in children?

About five in 100 children are heavy snorers, a condition that can cause growth retardation or heart failure. Children who snore will experience developmental delay, be thin, become drowsy when studying, and may also develop an inferiority complex, withdrawn personality, and decreased abilities.

Research in the United States shows that the incidence of snoring in children is 7%-9%. The incidence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in children is about 2%. According to their parents, 28% of children aged 2 to 13 years old snore during sleep in the first few months after birth. The onset age of snoring is 14±12 months, with the earliest onset occurring in the neonatal period.

Two studies from the United Kingdom reported that 8.7% of children aged 4 to 5 years snore most nights. The incidence of frequent or persistent snoring in children aged 1 to 10 years is 9%. A survey in Italy: 5% of people snore when they don’t have a cold. 7.3% were habitual snorers. The UK survey was similar.
