If a child develops intestinal spasm, the most obvious symptom is pain. However, due to different severity of the disease, the degree of pain is also different. In addition, some are paroxysmal pain, and some are intermittent pain, so the situation is very complicated. 1. If a normally healthy child suddenly has paroxysmal, intermittent abdominal pain and no abnormal symptoms can be found, it can be diagnosed as pediatric intestinal spasm. 2. The child's abdominal pain may last for several minutes or dozens of minutes, and may come and go. After repeated attacks for tens of minutes or hours, the abdominal pain may no longer occur. For some children, recurrent abdominal pain may last for several days. The severity of the pain varies, and in severe cases the child may roll over on the ground. 3. The typical symptom is abdominal pain mainly around the umbilical cord. In other words, intestinal spasm in children is pain caused by small intestinal lesions. 4. When spasms occur in the proximal large intestine, the pain occurs in the right lower abdomen; when spasms occur in the distal large intestine, pain occurs in the left lower abdomen; if the child experiences abdominal pain before defecation, it may be spasm of the descending colon or sigmoid colon. 5. In a small number of older children, colic may occur in the ribs, and is more common on one side. This is due to spasm of the hepatic flexure or splenic flexure of the colon. Younger people may also experience cramping in the abdominal area below the xiphoid process, which is caused by stomach spasms. 6. After a period of continuous spasm, the smooth muscles of the stomach and intestines will gradually relax naturally. At this time, the child's abdominal pain will disappear, forming the so-called inter-attack period. If the causative factor is not eliminated, the child may experience abdominal pain again. Strictly speaking, this is not intestinal spasm but gastric spasm, but because the mechanism of occurrence is similar, massage therapy is also effective. |
