What should I do if my child has trachoma? You must know these methods

Trachoma is most likely to occur in children and is highly contagious, so timely treatment is very important. There are many drugs in Western medicine to treat this disease. In addition, we must help children regulate their daily lives.

1. The treatment of trachoma mainly adopts local medication method. You can use 0.1% rifampicin eye drops or 0.3% ofloxacin eye drops for eye drops, 4-8 times a day, 1-2 drops each time. You can apply chloramphenicol, ofloxacin or ciprofloxacin eye ointment before going to bed at night. For patients with severe symptoms, oral administration of spiramycin and doxycycline can achieve better results. Appropriate drug or surgical treatment should be implemented for complications and sequelae of trachoma.

2. To prevent trachoma, the most important thing is to teach children to pay attention to eye hygiene. Educate children to develop the habit of cleanliness and hygiene from an early age. Insist on one handkerchief and one towel per person, and the handkerchiefs and towels used must be clean. Wash your hands frequently, and use running water to wash your hands and face as much as possible. Do not wipe your eyes with dirty hands, clothes or unclean handkerchiefs, and do not use other people's towels. On the collective side, environmental sanitation should be improved, and children's hygienic habits should be carefully cultivated in nurseries and kindergartens.

3. Another important measure to prevent trachoma is to provide timely treatment to children who have already suffered from trachoma. When treating children and adolescents with trachoma, the current patients in their childcare facilities or family members should also be cured at the same time. This will prevent large-scale outbreaks of contagious trachoma in small groups.

4. Trachoma does not have any special symptoms at the beginning, but once the disease begins, it may occur in the inner and outer corners of the upper and lower eyelid conjunctiva and the junction of the eyelid and eyeball in the early stage. Severe cases may affect the entire eyelid conjunctiva, showing congestion, blurred blood vessels, and turbid follicles of varying sizes. If your child is always rubbing his eyes, or crying, or tells you that his eyes are itchy or burning, you must pay attention to it. In addition, trachoma is contagious and isolation measures need to be taken.
