Acute upper respiratory tract infection in children

Acute upper respiratory tract infection in children

Most parents may not be aware that their children have acute upper respiratory tract infection. In fact, acute upper respiratory tract infection is a disease that babies often suffer from, which is what we often call a cold. Usually in spring and summer, the temperature is always changeable, which can easily cause babies to catch a cold. The most obvious symptom of acute upper respiratory tract infection is inflammation of the baby's nose, throat and other parts, which requires active treatment.

What to do if a child has acute upper respiratory tract infection?

The first trick: Don’t sweat

When children suffer from "acute respiratory infection", they generally show symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion, fever, and runny nose. Many elderly people are afraid that their children will catch a cold, so they suggest that children wear more clothes and keep them warm until they sweat. However, children are different from adults in that their temperature regulation system is not yet fully developed. Therefore, the method of covering up to make them sweat is not suitable for young children. Younger children should try to go to the hospital for treatment instead of simply keeping them warm.

Tip 2: Never give cough medicine to children at will

Another obvious symptom of a child's illness is coughing. When they cough, they will vomit out what they just ate. When children cough at night, they feel uncomfortable and adults cannot sleep well. At this time, some anxious mothers go to the hospital to buy some cough medicine for their children. In fact, there is nothing wrong with this, but it will create a false impression for parents. For example, if a child stops coughing and you think his cold has healed, in fact the child is still suffering from a cold, or even in severe cases, may have pneumonia.

Tip 3: Drinking more water is the simplest treatment method

If children drink more water, it can flush bacteria from the throat to a certain extent, prevent bacterial infection in children, and also replenish the water lost by children due to fever and sweating. Therefore, when children suffer from the common cold, they must be given water in time and allowed to get enough rest so that they will have the strength to fight the disease.

How to prevent it?

1. Parents should pay attention to children's physical exercise, often do outdoor sports, strengthen cold-resistant training, and improve their ability to adapt to changes in the external environment;

2. Open windows frequently to ventilate, keep indoor air flowing or use vinegar fumigation to achieve a certain sterilization effect;

3. When a family member has a cold, they should be isolated from children, and children should not be taken to crowded places during the cold season;

4. Children should not be overdressed at ordinary times. Clothes should be put on and taken off in time according to the temperature and children's activities. When sweating, they should be wiped dry in time to prevent overheating or coldness from inducing diseases;

5. Pay attention to children's daily nutritional intake, eat more vegetables and fruits, and ensure a balanced diet;

6. Take "four roots" ginger soup (scallion root, coriander root, radish root, cabbage root, ginger), boil it with water, and drink it as tea, once a day for 3 consecutive days;

7. For weak children and children with recurrent illnesses, levamisole can be taken in winter and spring, with a dose of 3 mg/kg/day, divided into 3 doses, taken for 2 consecutive days a week, and stopped for 5 days, for a total of 3 to 4 weeks. It should be used with caution in children with low white blood cell count or decreased liver function.
