Why is my baby’s scalp blue?

As the name suggests, the scalp is the skin on our head. The scalp generally looks white and has many pores on it, and hair grows out of each pore. Obviously, hair does not affect our lives most of the time, but there are some exceptions. For example, some babies' scalps look blue. What is going on medically?

1 This is what children's hair looks like. When the roots grow out, they are a little blue. This is a normal phenomenon because the blue areas are hair follicles, which are blue in color. The hair here grows denser, faster, and harder, while the hair on the white areas of the scalp grows softer and slower. Take your children outdoors to bask in the sun more often. Also, they should have a diverse diet and supplement with calcium and cod liver oil as appropriate. You can add complementary food to your child.

2The bluish scalp is blue scalp. In fact, the blood vessels are concentrated under the skin, so they appear as blue blocks when observed with the naked eye. Because of the good blood circulation, the hair grows more in the blue areas, and the hair is sparse elsewhere. This will not affect the baby's growth and development, don't worry.

3 When a baby is just born, there is a layer of oil on the surface of its skin. It is a yellow-white substance formed by the secretions of the skin and epithelial cells, called "vernaculation". This is because the baby's hair is not washed after birth. Over time, the seborrheic secretions of the scalp and dust gather together and form this problem.

4 If the bluish scalp is localized and lumpy, it is most likely a birthmark. Birthmarks are patches formed by an abnormal increase in local pigment cells. They have no effect on the child's physical condition and generally do not require treatment. If it affects the appearance, the child can be taken to a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment when he or she is older.
