What's wrong with a child who can't speak for a week and a half?

Every child is an angel in the hearts of his or her parents, and when a young child learns to speak for the first time, it is something that many parents feel very happy about. Generally, children start to learn to speak when they are one year old. However, some children have not started speaking after one and a half weeks. Parents of these children are very worried about this situation. So why do children not speak after one and a half weeks?

Language delay is a lag in language development caused by brain development. Compared with normal children of the same age and gender, some children show significant delay in language development. Children with expressive language delay can understand simple verbal instructions at the age of one and a half years old, respond accordingly to verbal instructions, and make some sounds when learning to speak, but they often cannot form words well. They forget old words after learning new words, so their vocabulary is very scarce, their sentences are awkward and difficult to understand, and especially they learn language much slower than ordinary children.

Cause: Physiological factors

Maldevelopment of certain organs can also affect language development, such as paralysis, cleft lip, malocclusion, abnormal tongue development, etc.

Intellectual and emotional factors

Any delay in intellectual development will inevitably lead to a corresponding delay in language development. Whether it is the time when they start speaking or the use of two-word words, they are one step behind normal children in all aspects of language development.

Simple language delay has nothing to do with mental retardation in the development of the nerves that control language and the vocal organs. The real cause is currently unclear. There were no particularly obvious abnormalities in the child's physical condition and language environment, but there was a significant delay in his ability to express himself in language. After the age of three, he was still in a state where he could hardly actively form words and speak.

Some parents are very worried about the fact that their children cannot speak after a week and a half, and they suspect that their children are sick. In this case, it is recommended that parents take their children to the hospital for examination in time. There are many cases in society where a child cannot speak until he is one and a half years old. However, there are also children who can speak after a period of time.
