What should I do if my baby has diarrhea while teething?

A baby is the top priority of a family. As long as the baby has a little problem, parents will be distressed for a long time, not to mention that the baby has diarrhea. Wouldn’t parents be more anxious than ants on a hot pan? What should I do if my baby has diarrhea while teething? Let’s learn more about this together to prevent new parents from being anxious and not knowing what to do when they encounter this situation in the future.

There are many causes of diarrhea in infants, which can be summarized into two categories: non-infectious and infectious factors.

1. Non-infectious factors: The digestive system of infants is immature, the secretion of gastric acid and digestive enzymes is low, the activity of digestive enzymes is low, and they cannot withstand large changes in dietary substances and quantities. Improper diet or feeding method can cause diarrhea. For example, eating too much, too little, at irregular times, changing food ingredients, adding too much sugar; adding complementary foods too early, such as egg yolks, porridge or vegetables, which make it difficult for children to digest; weaning children in hot weather, which easily changes the content of their diet, etc., can all cause diarrhea in infants. In addition, climate change can also cause diarrhea. For example, catching a cold can cause intestinal dysfunction; hot weather or wearing too warm clothes can reduce the secretion of gastric acid and digestive enzymes, causing indigestion and diarrhea.

2. Infectious factors: intestinal infection. Because bacteria, viruses, fungi or protozoa enter the digestive tract with food, or are spread through contaminated utensils, hands, toys, or when food becomes corrupt or spoiled, the food that has multiplied bacteria enters the body and causes digestive tract diseases and diarrhea. Long-term use of broad-spectrum antibiotics may directly irritate the intestines and cause diarrhea. Therefore, we should understand the physiological development characteristics of infants, be familiar with feeding knowledge, and do a good job of health care, so as to reduce the occurrence of infant diarrhea.

To prevent diarrhea in infants, the following points should be taken:

1. Breastfed children should avoid weaning in the summer to reduce diarrhea.

2. When adding complementary foods to babies, you should do it gradually. Avoid adding several complementary foods at the same time, or suddenly adding too much of one complementary food. Avoid sudden changes in the diet. Eat less fat-rich foods.

3. Children's utensils must be kept clean. Milk containers should be boiled and disinfected once a day, washed after each use, and scalded with boiling water before reuse. Do not touch it with unclean hands. When the nipple is blocked, adults should not suck it through their mouths and then feed it to the child to prevent disease from entering the body through the mouth.

4. The complementary food you add to your child must be fresh. Milk and other milk substitutes must be boiled and sterilized before they can be consumed. White sugar should be boiled in water or milk before feeding to children.

5. Try to avoid contact with children suffering from diarrhea.

6. Strengthen outdoor activities, pay attention to weather changes, avoid uneven temperature, pay attention to environmental and personal hygiene, and do not let children develop the bad habit of "sucking their fingers".

Now we all know what to do if the baby has diarrhea due to teething. Now that we know this, we should study it carefully. Moms and dads, if your baby has diarrhea or something else, we must not panic first. This way we can be calmer and solve the problem better.
