What are the symptoms of vitiligo in children?

Vitiligo is a very common skin disease. The main symptoms of this disease are very obvious. White spots will appear on the skin, which greatly affects the appearance. The proportion of adults suffering from the disease is relatively high, but children are also a high-risk group for vitiligo. However, because people do not understand the symptoms of vitiligo, treatment will be delayed in the early stage. Here we will introduce the symptoms of vitiligo in children.

1. In the early stage, the white spots are mostly the size of fingernails or coins, nearly round, oval or irregular in shape, sometimes with dotted spots, with obvious boundaries, and some with pigmented edges.

2. In the later stage, the white spots increase, expand and become intertwined. The white spots merge into islands. In addition to loss of pigmentation, the affected areas also experience atrophy or desquamation. The hair on the white spots loses its pigment and turns completely white.

3. The number of white spots is uncertain and may be limited to a certain part of the body or distributed in a certain nerve segment (or dermatome). White spots rarely disappear on their own and often gradually increase and expand. Adjacent white spots may merge with each other to form irregular large patches and spread throughout the body.

4. Vitiligo can occur in up to three tones, namely white, grayish white, and nearly normal skin color from the inside out. Some vitiligo patients may turn completely white, with the surrounding skin slightly red (because the blood vessels in the papillary dermis are visible) or grayish white.

Vitiligo is a primary, localized or generalized depigmentation of the skin. It is due to local pigmentation disorder of the skin and the decreased function of the tyrosinase system in the melanocytes of the skin and hair follicles, which leads to a significant lack of melanocytes in the epidermis and causes skin pigmentation loss. It seriously affects the patient's appearance and has a great adverse impact on the patient's normal study, employment, marriage, family, social and other aspects.

The above article introduces the symptoms of vitiligo in children. Whether it is children or adults, the symptoms are similar. The most important and obvious symptom is the appearance of white spots on the skin. In the early stages of vitiligo, when the white spots are not large, they can be controlled, but if they are not discovered and treated in time, it will easily worsen the condition. Therefore, it is also important to understand the symptoms of vitiligo.
