What to do if baby has phlegm in throat?

It is precisely because infants and young children have low immunity that they are always more likely to develop symptoms of illness than adults. What about newborn babies who don’t know how to speak, let alone spit? Therefore, because newborn babies do not know how to spit, phlegm always accumulates in the baby's body and cannot come out. Faced with this series of troubles, what should we do in this situation?

1): Patting the back to eliminate phlegm:

After picking up the baby, let the baby lie on his side on the mother, then the mother half-clenched her fist and gently patted the baby's back, from bottom to top and from outside to inside. The palms should be empty so as not to hurt the child. Patting for 5-8 minutes each time, 3-5 times a day is more effective.

2): Give your baby more water:

Drinking more water can dilute the phlegm and alleviate the problem of excessive phlegm in babies. Just give your baby boiled water, and it is better to ensure about 200ml a day.

When your baby is sleeping, use a few pillows to raise his head to prevent the secreted mucus from flowing into the baby's throat and causing discomfort or coughing. But don't raise it too high, otherwise it will cause discomfort to the baby.

When a newborn baby has phlegm in his throat, no one at home should smoke, otherwise the smoke will choke the baby and aggravate the baby's cough and produce more phlegm. In addition, opening windows at home frequently to ventilate and ensure fresh air is very helpful in relieving your baby's excessive phlegm.

3): Apply expectorant patch to your baby:

Putting an expectorant patch on the baby's back can relieve the baby's excessive phlegm. However, it should be done under the guidance of a doctor, and you should choose the hospital's special expectorant patches for children, and do not buy them at will.

If your baby has obvious signs of inflammation while coughing, such as fever, shivering, yellow and sticky sputum, etc., you should see a doctor in time and take medicine or intravenous fluids under the doctor's guidance.

Therefore, the baby's parents should not worry too much. If you encounter a newborn with phlegm in the throat, there is no need to be anxious. Just follow the steps and the doctor's instructions step by step carefully and slowly, so that you can handle and solve the problem smoothly.
