What are the dangers of asthma in children?

Looking at the stars in the entertainment industry, many of them have suffered from asthma, and some have even lost their lives because of asthma. This shows how harmful asthma is to people. Nowadays, asthma is not only suffered by adults. The proportion of children suffering from this disease is also increasing year by year. So, if a child suffers from asthma, what kind of harm will it cause to the body?

(1) Induce emphysema and cor pulmonale: According to statistics, about 80% of emphysema patients have chronic bronchitis, 1/3 of chronic bronchitis is accompanied by emphysema, but only about 1/10 of asthma patients have emphysema.

(2) Chest deformity and rib fractures: Chest deformity is quite common in asthma, and is mainly seen in children who have had asthma since childhood or those who have suffered from the disease for a long time.

(3) Occurrence of cardiac arrhythmia and shock: Severe status asthmaticus itself can cause cardiac arrhythmia and shock due to the effect of hypoxia.

(4) Delayed growth and development: General asthma has little effect on children's growth and development. However, if children suffer from asthma attacks throughout the year or use corticosteroids for a long time, it may have a greater impact on children's growth and development due to hypoxia or the inhibitory effects of corticosteroids on protein synthesis.

(5) Cause respiratory arrest and respiratory failure: Respiratory arrest refers to the patient's sudden cessation of breathing. Most of the time, it occurs when the patient is eating or coughing after having been ill for several days in a row, or after slight activity. Before this serious complication occurs, the condition is usually not too serious and there are no warning signs. Respiratory failure occurs much more slowly than respiratory arrest and is often a complication of status asthmaticus in the late stages. It manifests as changes in consciousness and obvious cyanosis and the patient should be sent to the hospital for treatment.

It can be seen that the harm to children will be greater after they suffer from asthma. It will not only endanger their physical health, but also affect their physical development, causing children to have problems such as developmental delay and deformity, and in severe cases it will also affect their lives. Therefore, when a child suffers from asthma, it is important to pay attention to active treatment and keep the child away from allergens that cause asthma.
