Symptoms of heat stroke in children

In summer, everyone is prone to heat stroke, especially children. Children sometimes like to play outside, which can easily lead to heat stroke. The summers of the past two years have been particularly hot. We should be able to prevent heat stroke in time. Children with heat stroke will have high fever symptoms, and some severe cases will have a fever of 41 degrees. Let's take a look at the symptoms of heat stroke in children.

In the hot summer, we are all very likely to suffer from symptoms of heat stroke, especially children. Everyone should be familiar with some symptoms of heat stroke, such as dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. The following are the symptoms of heat stroke in children, and parents should pay more attention to them.

Symptoms of heat stroke in children:

The prominent symptom of heatstroke is high fever. Generally, the body temperature during heatstroke often reaches 38℃-39℃. In severe heatstroke, the body temperature can even reach above 41℃.

At the beginning of the disease, children sweat a lot, and then excessive sweating may cause dysfunction of the hypothalamus and sweat glands. The skin becomes dry and burning, and the face becomes flushed. When there is no sweat, the child's body temperature tends to rise further rapidly.

It is also accompanied by thirst, mental depression or irritability. Some children also have convulsions and coma. In severe cases, it may be complicated by cerebral edema, respiratory failure, circulatory failure and damage to important organ functions.

Emergency treatment for heat stroke in children:

Remove from high temperature environment immediately.

If children have heatstroke, they should be removed from the high temperature environment immediately and moved to ventilated and cool places such as corridors, under the shade of trees, and air-conditioned rooms to allow them to have a good rest. However, it should be noted that the cooling method should be gentle and avoid sudden drops in temperature. For example, a child suffering from heatstroke should not be immediately taken into an air-conditioned room with too low a temperature. Instead, a fan should be blown on the child, or the child should be placed in an air-conditioned room with a suitable temperature.

Physical cooling.

If children have heatstroke, stop them from playing or running around. Instead, let them lie flat on their backs and keep their airways open. Immediately unbutton their clothes and take off or loosen their clothes. At the same time, parents can cool their children down physically by wiping their entire body with a wet towel, or by applying a cold towel to their forehead.

Medicine to dispel heat.

If children have heatstroke, parents can give them oral medicines such as Rendan, Shidi Shui, Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui, etc. They can also apply cooling oil, Fengyoujing and other medicines on their foreheads and temples. However, parents should not give them antipyretics, antibiotics or other drugs without authorization.

Scraping.

Gua Sha is one of the special treatments in traditional Chinese medicine. When children have heatstroke, you can try Gua Sha on them. Gua Sha therapy refers to the use of smooth hard instruments or fingers, metal needles, etc., to repeatedly scrape, squeeze, pull, pinch, and prick specific parts of the human body surface in a physical stimulation manner, causing ecchymosis, blood spots, or punctate bleeding on the skin surface, and improving the body's qi and blood circulation by stimulating the body's surface veins, thereby achieving the effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, adjusting yin and yang, relaxing muscles and tendons, clearing away heat and reducing swelling, and strengthening the body and eliminating evil. However, if parents do not understand scraping therapy, they should not try it recklessly to avoid hurting their children.

Parents should pay attention to the symptoms of heatstroke in children. If they find that their children are suffering from heatstroke, they should be dealt with in time and take some physical cooling methods. If the child is still conscious, they can be given some light salt water. If the situation is not too serious, parents can cook some mung bean porridge for the child.
