1. What is a cyst?

Cyst is a benign disease that has a cystic structure and a cystic wall, and contains fluid or other components. Cysts may grow on the surface of the body, inside the body or in a certain organ. The specific nature of the tumor can also be determined based on the benign mass of the tumor. The more common ones are "kidney cyst", "liver cyst", "simple ovarian cyst" and "chocolate cyst", etc. Many cysts are round and oval in shape, and mostly exist in the epidermis and subcutaneous tissue.

2. Popliteal fossa

The popliteal fossa is a cyst-like physical disease. The popliteal fossa is the concave area behind the knee. There are many blood vessels and nerves in the popliteal fossa from shallow to deep. Popliteal cyst is manifested by symptoms such as swelling of the bursa deep in the popliteal fossa and protrusion of the synovial bursa at the knee joint. The symptoms will not be too obvious in the early stage of the disease, and will be accompanied by uncomfortable and swollen pain behind the knee. There is no abnormality on the skin surface, but soft tissue lumps will be found when touched. Discomfort when walking or a feeling of soreness and swelling in the popliteal area after walking.

3. How to treat popliteal cyst?

There are two types of treatment for popliteal cysts. The first type of conservative treatment is to do some stretching and stretching-related exercises regularly. The exercise should not be too strenuous. At the same time, you should pay attention to not injuring the joints. Do not exercise blindly or rush to exercise. It can relieve the condition in the long run. After exercise, it is best to apply a hot towel to the affected area to help relieve pain. The second treatment is surgery. Severe patients should be arranged to undergo surgery as soon as possible. After the surgery, the legs should be straightened and raised and exercises should be performed to help the thigh muscles.

4. What to do with popliteal cyst

Diseases such as popliteal cysts depend on whether the patient is an adult or a child. There are differences between popliteal cysts in children and adults. Children's joints are not connected, and it is extremely rare for them to have combined lesions. Generally, they can recover on their own. In the early stages of the disease, some adults have no symptoms, while others may experience discomfort and swelling. Popliteal cysts are symptoms of bone and joint diseases, which can be primary or secondary. If the long-term symptoms are not alleviated, the diseased cysts can be surgically removed to prevent recurrence.

5. TCM treatment of popliteal cyst

Most popliteal cysts are closely related to the degree of knee osteoarthritis (bone hyperplasia). Medication can help control the condition of popliteal cysts. Oral and external application may alleviate symptoms and make them disappear. External application can promote blood circulation, dispel wind, and dissipate cold. It has good local absorption and strong permeability. The drug helps blood circulation through the skin, reaches the diseased area, and is transmitted to the meridians through the skin to promote body regulation, which is beneficial to blood circulation in bones, joints and surrounding tissues, reduces inflammation, and eliminates joint stiffness, swelling and pain.
