Why does my baby have green foamy stool?

Why does my baby have green foamy stool?

Sometimes babies who have just turned one month old will suddenly have some problems with their poop. The poop will be green in color and foamy. For this reason, many mothers are very worried about their babies. Why do they have green poop? They think that they are not taking good care of their babies or that their babies are sick, and then they will be very anxious. Let’s take a look at the situation where babies have green poop.

If there is a bad smell, it means protein is not digested properly; if it has a sour taste, is accompanied by foam, is slightly soft or paste-like, it means carbohydrate and sugar are not digested properly and there is excessive intestinal acid fermentation; if it looks like a cream, it means fat is not digested properly. If curds appear in the stool, they are mostly soap blocks formed by undigested fat and calcium or magnesium. A small amount is still normal. If you have had normal bowel movements and suddenly have foamy stools, it may be caused by catching a cold or by too high a proportion of starch or sugar in the milk. For breastfed babies, it may be related to the mother's consumption of food high in sugar, or it may also be caused by the mother's recent gastrointestinal discomfort. If the situation is more serious, with multiple bowel movements a day and a lot of water, it is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment in time. In daily care, you should add an appropriate amount of boiled water between breast milks, 5 to 10 ml each time.

Why is baby poop green?

Under normal circumstances, the baby's stool may also be green, such as when hungry. The color of your stool is related to chemical changes in the bile secreted by the liver. The stools of breastfed babies are acidic, and more bilirubin in the bile is converted into biliverdin, making the stool green. The stools of babies fed with milk are alkaline. The bilirubin in the bile is converted into colorless sterobiligen, and the stools appear light yellow. Therefore, green stools in babies are a normal physiological phenomenon and there is no need to worry.

The reasons for green stool are: 1. Milk products are rich in iron, which is not fully absorbed in time and excreted from the stool, making the stool green; 2. During the digestion of fat, less bile is consumed, and the excess bile is excreted from the stool, making the stool green.

Regarding the baby's green stool, I hope that all mothers will not be too anxious or panic. After all, this is normal. However, all mothers should pay attention to their baby's diet and life characteristics and not let their baby deviate too much from the normal track of life. Only in this way can they take better care of their babies and understand their babies.
