What are the symptoms of baby tics?

What are the symptoms of baby tics?

Generally speaking, tics are caused by involuntary muscle contractions in the patient's body. In life, babies are the most likely to suffer from tics. Usually, the symptoms of baby tics are not particularly obvious. Therefore, many parents need to understand more about the manifestations of baby tics when taking care of their babies. I will explain it to you below, and I hope you all benefit from it.

Tics are involuntary, paroxysmal, strong contractions of the whole or local muscles. The attacks can be tonic (continuous muscle contraction), clonic (intermittent muscle contraction), and mixed (sequential tonic and clonic contractions).

It can be caused by high fever, epilepsy, tetanus, rabies, calcium deficiency, etc. This is systemic, and there are also local ones such as gastrocnemius (commonly known as calf) spasms, which are often caused by rapid exercise or work fatigue or severe twisting of the tibia, and often occur when lying down or sleeping.

Tics mainly manifest as motor tics and vocal tics. In the early stages, motor tics are the main symptoms. As the disease progresses, vocal tics are also present.

1. Simple motor tics: such as blinking, raising eyebrows, wrinkling nose, sticking out tongue, licking lips, nodding, shaking head, shrugging shoulders, snapping fingers, etc.

2. Complex motor tics: more complete or slower tics, such as eye movements, facial twitching leading to a special expression, or certain postures of the shoulders, arms, hands, or feet. If the child suddenly reaches out to slap someone, touches furniture, hits himself or herself, or performs dystonia postures such as spinning, jumping, straightening up, or bending the waist and abdomen, he or she is often misunderstood and disliked by people around him or her. The child may have to stop going to school or stay at home, and then become withdrawn and hostile to others, leading to social function and personality disorders.

3. Simple vocal tics: explosive and repetitive vocalizations, characterized by rapid, meaningless, monotonous repetitions, unclear syllables and words, and inappropriate stress, such as constant throat clearing, coughing, and involuntary screams such as "Hum-hum..." and "Ah-ah..."

4. Complex sound tics: Some meaningful short sentences or more complex sentences appear. Some also appear as repetitive, stereotyped complete sentences or even foul language.

What are the symptoms of baby tics? Generally speaking, when a baby shows symptoms such as raising eyebrows, shaking head, shrugging shoulders, suddenly reaching out to hit people, and blinking, parents should pay attention that these behaviors may be symptoms of the baby suffering from tics, and the treatment of baby tics also needs to be started as early as possible.
